Looks like we've got a lot of spam accounts lately here, actually multiple ones every day. I'm not sure if that's possible with vbulletin forums, but what about another layer besides human verification (which is useless if it's not bots but actual people) like this:

 

Make a new group for users with postcount lesser than 10. Prohibit such users from posting (external) links or placing them into the signature.

 

I guess they could still post, but at least they won't place any active malicious links. Or does someone have a better idea?

It helps when users report them for us so we can deal with them.

 

We don't want to limit our genuine new users.

 

I do not think they are bots as they can easily get past the registration captcha, which makes it worse knowing some poor soul is sitting there doing it.
