Barao Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) Ok, tests: I had rather an increase in performance. Conducting a benchmark with 3DMark got the following increase in performance: Before (with the GTX 680): Total 5556; graphics (GPU) 7254; physics (CPU) 4122; combined (CPU + GPU) in 2489. Now (with the 1070 GTX + SSD): Total 8974; graphics (GPU) 16719 (4 x GTX 680); physics (CPU) 4579; combined (CPU + GPU) in 2958. Barao Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) How can this be? In DCS, the results was not too obvious. My config is: I think though my CPU is a huge bottleneck, there is an obstruction before it. That's because the FPS was not related to the use of the GPU and CPU. I was using the MSI Afterburner, but the informations about FSB, GPU, RAM and CPU usage not appearing in screenshot. But I remember. Nothing here is logical, on many occasions my FPS is low, but I do not have a physical bottleneck, let alone graphics, that is, my CPU and GPU are not being used at these times. Migo Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Did you check usage of the individual cores? If one of the cores is at 100% load it will show like 25% overall usage. Your cpu will be bottleneck until you get one that clocks around 4.5Ghz.

C2D-Quads have a fraction of that, which is often enough in DCS but when the CPU struggles and RAM is slow the result is what you see I am afraid to say. I can clearly see the same on my 2nd system that I use now while rebuilding #1. That i7-920 is plenty fast for most in DCS but certain things where my 4.8GHz Sandy went well without any hiccups this system stutters, not really bad, like a splitt sec loading time etc.. The 4.5GHz+ thing is a thing of it's own and you can very well have bad frames even with such high clock rates, been there---aka...even if your HW and OS is in top notch config and state there are many hurdlöes left to take and pitfalls ahead. Just look at NVidia enabling all those stupid features lately like logging, WIn10 enabled DVR-Rec..etc..endless list almost that you gotta fix to make sure you run a F1 Grid like machine. It's so time consuming that you have to love it or hate it is my honest opinion. Meanwhile my tendency goes towards a Quad channel setup on either X99 or if I can wait X299 as I can see memory demnads going way UP and more meory demands higher speed to shuffle the same amount of percentage of RAM in the same time and NOT SAME AMOUNT OF GIGABYTES....percentage !!! is what counts. 1 sec for all your RAM is a good value as worst case. 3400MHz DDR4 on quad pumped X99's delivers like 70GB/sec whereas a Z170/ 6700k on 2133MHZ DDR4 is around 25GB/sec +/- quite a difference in how fast they can shuffle RAM back and forth. Fast RAM wont serve you good in all aspects but in some it will boost like no other measure but another channel. Barao Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 (edited) +1; correct Also memory bandwidth may come into play here. I was suspicious of it before you answer. but before changing the system, I will try to maximize the current. Oceandar Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 You barely hit below 30. That's a good thing. Personally I wouldn't be bother to further tuning my system with FPS above 30, its acceptable. BitMaster Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I opted for the rig in sig and skipped the 3rd RAM channel for now. BitMaster Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Yes, it is 2 x 16GB and for now I only get them up to 2800MHz by hand, XMP refuses to boot the board. This is with about 5 min time to work the board tbh, worked till 4am to get it up and running after I found out it wouldnt fit my Corsair Carbide 500r tower cuz of some BS Corsair risers that wont fit the backplate of the mobo ( Corsair fault, they are not in spec tbh ). 16GB is plenty, I work VMware as well. For DCS 2x8GB is save, but keep 2 slots open JUST IN CASE.
