Hi all

I currently have a GTX 680 2G model and would like some feedback as to whether or not the Radeon R9 390 would be a good upgrade choice.

A local compute store has them for $295CDN .

My Specs:

I5 2500K

Asus P67Pro mobo

12G DDR3@1600Mhz

MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr

LG 27" 1080p monitor

Windows 10

In general the forum voice is: ---- DCS prefers Nvidia. ----

I am unsure if that has changed so much that someone who knows the deal would recommend an AMD card.

Let the AMD guys speak up and hear what they say 1st hand...:

My friend got an R9 380x 8 GB to replace his ageing Radeon 7970 OC 3 GB, which ran comparably faster than my GTX 670 2 GB OC, and always seemed to have a "deeper" picture quality.

And he got massively better fps, and could raise his graphics options a lot too.

So I can definitely recommend such a card.

But, take a look what you could get otherwise for the same price first of course.

System specs:

Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440)

Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use

Annnd a week later my R9 390 is looking like it's dead (it might be the psu, so will test later on another machine to confirm).

Either way, found out the R9 390 is actually discontinued as has been EoL'd as of last month. The AMD RX 480 is it's faster and same priced replacement.

Edit: Was my PSU, GFX card is totally fine and pumping pixels like a champ!

GFX card is fine

A 390 would be good, a 390X would be better, but if you're willing to spend a good bit, wait for the RX 490.

I've been holding out for one myself, but now I got to wait even longer for 2Q 2017. If you're trying to upgrade I would probably do the same and wait. The 390X with be near to nothing compared at the RX 490.

I dont have a 390 or later but have been running a Powercolor R9 295X2 8GB card for several years now.

Never had any problems with DCS. Everyhing is on highest settings whether its 1.5 or 2.0.

Spoiler holds my system.
