Hi gents,

after the FW190 i now own the Bf109 from DCS and have to say, its 10 times easyer to take off and land this bird than the 190, even without stickcurves

like i have to use in the 190. Should it not be the other way around?

Both are easy, it depends on how much time you spend with them, if you are "gifted" and understand aerodynamic principles very well, and can translate theory to practice.

Not sure if that is what you mean, but what is somewhat "unnatural" about landing Dora is that you have to pull the nose unusually high (high AOA) in order to get the 3 point landing which luftwaffe was so serious about. Also, at landing, she is just meant to "drop like a piano from 7th" (find Brunotte`s words fitting here). It`s only unusual first time, do it once or twice and you get it. Overall, not really sure why you consider either of them to be easier/more difficult than the other. If it`s not what I mentioned, then what exactly do you struggle with the 190?

Maybe you need to adjust your mindset when flying, Bf109 is like a glider, FW190 not so much (hence why she drops on landing).

Hi zerO_crash,

i needed 2 weeks to get the 190 in the air and back on the ground, the 109

was finished in one flight. You need mutch more stick imput and corrections for the 190, the 109 is easy to hold at the glidepath no big corrections are needed.

From what i have read the 109 is a beast at landing and start, the 190 not. But when i compare both planes in DCS, its harder to get the 190 straight airborn and back on the ground.

I had some trouble taking off and landing in the Dora until I set elevator trim to nose heavy.

Nowadays I barely notice any difference between either plane, except for the 109's tendency to drop a wingtip to the pavement during too enthusiastic differential braking just after touchdown.

So, 109 was easier after you learnt first with 190… That's not 109 being easier, it's the logic consequence of you learning .

That's most probably (at least partly) the case here. I personally think 190, flying by the book is very easy to t/o and land. Many people also forget that if you know how to keep 109 straight when gears are still in ground it's not actually harder to take-off than most of the ww2 tail draggers (same goes to landing).

This is my top tip for smooth takeoffs in the 190, trim the nose heavy. At neutral trim it wants to takeoff too early and is prone to stalling. When you've done that the 190 is much more pleasant on takeoff, though still harder work than the P-51 IMO.

I thought the 109 was super easy till I discovered in the settings it had defaulted to 100% take off help. Once I set this to 0 it was significantly harder.

Like everyone say's though, even with 0 take off assistance once you figure it out it isn't so bad.
