Hello.

I've been playing DCS for what seems like forever, but I've never really gotten into the whole multiplayer thing until recently with a friend of mine who I'm trying to get into the game. I'm not well versed in multiplayer of any game type, really so consider me pretty new.

We both have been having trouble joining or creating servers. Last night for the first time we were able to join the same server and had a blast, but I'd really like to learn how to create my own so as to create our own training missions.

The difficulties we've had are as follows.

  • When we create a private server (or public server), the other person can't find that server that's created.

  • We also don't always see the same server list as the other person. I'll call out a free fly server someone else has created, but he can't see it, or vis versa.

Clearly it's not completely blocked, as we were able to play in the same server for the first time last night (and had a lot of fun). But I'm not sure why we don't always see the same servers, or why we can't seem to create a public server the other person can join in on.

For the record, my game is modded, so I steer clear of integrity check servers (and create ones that do not require an integrity check). And don't usually set to private, so he can see it.

Any suggestions or places to point me in the direction of? Any reason why I can't see a server he creates or he can't see one I create?

Thanks in advance.

As far as having different server lists, it is entirely possible that you are running two different versions of DCS. Not just the 1.5, 1.5 Open beta, and 2.0, but all the numbers after that. In the past being outdated wasn't an issue, but ED has updated some network code recently, meaning that 1.54 cannot connect with a 1.55 server. To make sure you have current versions check out this site (http://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/) and (I believe,) in the lower right hand corner of your main menu you'll see the version you are running. To "force" an update, open command prompt by simultaneously pressing Win key + r, type in "cmd" and hit enter. Then type "cd" space "your install path of DCS_updater.exe" space "update" and hit enter. It should look like this:

c:\Users"name">cd C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe update

Hope this rambling helps!
