I heard that those were deadly missiles since no one can hear it coming. I always have a hard time locking with those in INFRARED mode... but the radar picks up an enemy fine. Any strategies or tips to using these missiles successfully? Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!

Fly towards the bogey illuminating. You can use thermals within 15-20 km radius. Problem is that these does not make distinction between enemy and friendly. So you will still have to rely on AWACS or radar to identify the bogey. Of course, if you know sure that there is an enemy then fire and go home.

Just fly straight towards your opponent and type on the chat "Look..I'm radar off..I come in peace..hey, you just please tell me what's your exact angels and heading and I'll continue my marry way.." (looks for a Launch override button)

Close in to the bandit with radar and switch to EOS when you are close enough. You can switch modes without loosing the lock. By then you are sure that you have no fiendly locked. He wont get a launch warning this way but he knows he has been tracked so he might be alerted.

As written in the posts before: For a pure EOS engagement you have to be sure who you are shooting at! ;)

Su-25T got special IR active counter mesures not against tracking but for avoiding IR missiles.

And nothing on fighters for that.

Depends on the ECM you use. The regular ECM on the F-15, Su-27/33 (with pods), MiG-29S, and Su-25 (also with pods) won't protect you - however, the thermal jammer on the Su-25Ts tail might.

Edit. Got beaten to it. *grumble... grumble... S-300... grumble*
