razo+r Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Well, after an AI was droping one, she had a normal trajectory to the ground but then suddenly it decelerated instantly to 25km/h and then she flipped itselfe around, not falling straight down but more just like swinging around... In the picture, the AI was flying <- that way and the bomb just flipped itselfe facing -> right...
razo+r Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 there was no wind and then i'm sure not even a bomb with a chute will swing around like that...
Corrigan Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 ^ Agree with that. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
razo+r Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 i know, but i still have issues believing that swinging...
BravoYankee4 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 My 25 years experience in the army says there is some swing in all light flares with parachutes, both smaller pistol variants up to the 8.4 cm Carl Gustaf model. Unfortunately I haven't seen any LYSBOMB in action IRL, but the principles should be the same. Haven't seen the DCS behavior so I don't know how much swing you are talking about. Is there any video?

I didn't make a video, but from the picture you can see the maximum swing to one direction, and it swings back to the same height on the other side until it's on the ground
BravoYankee4 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I have hard time finding the correct english explanation, but I would like to describe the fall like a kind of spiral swing movement. Based on the picture above I would say it might be a little exaggerated. I'll see if I get some time to test this in DCS tonight.
renhanxue Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Isn't it kinda like a pendulum? That's what I'd expect to act like from a physical standpoint - it's a weight hung from a string, basically.
razo+r Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 it's like a pendulum, but it just doesn't swing alot, there are a few videos on youtube, where they film retarded bombs, which don't swing much but rather fall straight down
