Just simple question.

I think that 2xmsaa with 1.2pd looks better (no shimmering) than 1.5pd without msaa.

But even 2xmsaa will make ground target spotting bit harder.

Please just tell me your favorite or your findings :)

I used to run 1.8PD with no MSAA.

The other day I switched to 8xMSAA and 1.2PD and I feel like I can spot air targets a lot easier. I measured spotting distance to 59.xKM.

Also... last night I had the opportunity to do some A2G gun kills with the mirage and they were difficult to spot but not impossible. I don't have the chance to kill too much on the ground with guns in the M2C so I can't say if it was easier or more difficult.

I'll likely have a chance to do some work in the BlackShark tonight though and I have a lot more exp. in that. I'll report back if I remember to :).

Do you use MSAA with PD

I will test more soon as my Night shifts are over, 4 nights to go :/

I have 1.3 pixel density now and 2xMsaa + 4xAF and its quite easy to spot ground units. Not tested air targets yet ..

1.4 PD and 4xMSAA for me. Depends on the textures sun position etc.. I can spot ground targets from around 2.5 3.0 miles with vr zoom(except infantry).

I'm using PD 1.2 and MSAA 4x, appearance is way better than PD 1.6 and no MSAA that I used to run. Performance is better too.

I don't do much A-G, but A-A spotting has been really good with this set-up. In some ways its been easier than when I used a monitor. I find that spotting F-15 sized targets against the sky is quite feasible at 10 nm and missiles at 4 nm.

Its more variable spotting against the ground, but still very doable.

I think that i will get RX480 with 8gb memory. I have 970 4gb now and vram is quiqly used if pd or aa are set too high.

But thanks for input.

Even 2xmsaa will make huge improvement in visual quality. Shimmering is almost gone. :)

I am wondering if I am setting my options too high.

1.8 PD

8X MSAA

4X Anistropic filtering

No shadows

High Textures and Terrain Textures

Medium civ traffic

Visibility high

No shadows no blur

I get nice enough frame rates, 45fps except over big towns.

Do you guys use shadows?

Hey Cib,

I dont find difference with PD more than 1.5 :)

Stick to the topic :)

I've tested in the BS and I'm pretty sure that 8xMSAA and 1.2PD makes for easier ground spotting as well.

Bumb,

Now i run PD at 1.3 and 4xMSAA

Shimmer is gone when using 4xmsaa , with 2xmsaa there is some shimmer.

Now i keep 4xmsaa and go to try diffrent PD levels.

I lately use PD.10 and no MSAA! Finally I can see contacts, yes it is choppy, but as everybody is familiar with their planes and cockpit visibility is not as important as contacts, i find allround thats the best seting, before that was using PD 1.5 with MSAA 2x. You have to choose U wanna see gauges (that you know anyway) or contacts. I found that even PD 1.1 will not make any improvement on gauges but will hit contact visibility;) As long as ED finds some other solution or makes labels small again that we can use them, there is no alternative. I know this is not the most popular opinion, but give it a go try one week with these settings on missions, and i guess U will agree that those visual hits are minor in comparison with visibility bonus!

Sorry for double post! U can experiment with PD in instant action mission SU-27 interception, For experiment purpuse put PD lower PD than 1.0, u will see contacts crazy clear even missiles them selves, but resolution becomes unbarable, so as i said PD 1.0 and no MSAA!

Yes allready done that. I will stay with some msaa and pd. Too blocky without.

Air targets are easy enough to see but i really hate stock textures . Tank's are lost in those textures , too much painted "detail" or noise.

If you put tank in field (green or yellow) you will see it easily. The try green Bush / forest tile: it will be lost even quite close :/

So when we get VR only textures ? No painted details, we have 3D grass etc so why paint those in terrain??

Do you use MSAA with PD

After latest update i cant spot ground targets anymore until very near/ top of them.

Same mission as before update, same settings.

Looks like now more msaa will make things worse , lack of contrast maybe :/

Anyone with same problem ?

1.5.5 was super smooth 1.5.6 is really choppy, and fps is lower, i even rolled back to 1.5.5. Stuttering was already in 1.5.6 open beta, why did devs make it stable that way dont know.
