Sundowner.pl Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Ok, I got a reply from an AH-64 Crew Chief. It appears that there is some misinformation on the Internet. It is normal operation to eject the spend cases... and actually they're not ejected... they simply drop from the bottom of the gun ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "If a place needs helicopters, it's probably not worth visiting." - Nick Lappos
Esac_mirmidon Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Then, the normal operation of the AH-64 Chain Gun is simply let de empty shells go down by gravity? Well, maybe more cheapper, and if the pilot can drop some of the shells over the enemy´s heads also could get extra casualties.... Thanks for your reply .PL " You must think in russian.." Dudikoff Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Well, maybe more cheapper, and if the pilot can drop some of the shells over the enemy´s heads also could get extra casualties.... Sundowner.pl Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Well there is no DU ammo for the M230 cannon, only for the GAU-8/A. I know where you going with this, and there still is no proof that DU is more dangerous than any other heavy metal... like Lead for example. Actually, more concern should be given to everything, what comes from a destroyed tank - like Asbestos dust, or gases from burning ammunition propellants. When I say the cases are dropping I mean, there is no additional mechanism that could accelerate the cases away from the gun - like in cannons mounted on APCs. Esac_mirmidon Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Rugg understand the joke ... I´m only joking about hit enemys with empty shells ¡¡¡¡ Nothing else. I know a story about French pilots in the Sudan conflict about de intervention of Libya and the Azouzou line. The french parachute brigade drunk a lot of beer and the empty bottles came as a very big problem. Then someone clever thinks that at the back of the old Skyriders ( the radar was removed ) were enough space for this empty beer bottles, trhowing on the enemy´s heads during his no combatant fly by´s. With this not only the bottles problem was solutionated, but the bottles screaming in the air very loud going down and scared a little and also someone said that nothing is worst than walk into the desert thursty and hungry when a empty beer bottle hits you in the head.
