RedShoes Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 So, what's your favourite defensive move against those pesky 109s on the hostile multiplayer skies??? You know, when he is attacking from your high 6 with quite some speed advantage. Here's mine (today from the = AGC= server); unfortunately I can't pull this off every time... :joystick: Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 | i7-8700K | 32GB DDR4 3600 | GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FE | EKWB custom loop water cooling | Samsung M.2 EVO 960 500GB SSD + 2 x Crucial 250MX SSD + 4TB HD | Asus PG348Q 3440x1440 | TrackIR5 | Oculus Rift CV1 | MSFFB2 w extension + Saitek X52 Throttle + MFG Crosswind | Windows 10-64

philstyle Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Tried this last night. The 109 just went up as soon as I started turning and stayed up... I ran out of energy (of course) in the turn reversal. OnlyforDCS Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Nicely done Redshoes, great skill :) Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
OutLord Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Back in the days of IL2 Sturmovik, I would split-S as they got within gun range and then continue to climb in the other direction. Eventually you would be at the same altitude as the 109's with better turn rate. admittedly this was in the yak 3, but I'm thinkin it would work in the spit as well.

This won't work well against the K at all. You will be trading altitude for speed, however speed is not the MkIX forte, especially against the 109K. Never dive in a Spit. It's a death sentence (as I have discovered many times). Maybe you are thinking of an Immelman. That would probably work better, although it's risky. OutLord Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 As I said it worked for me against the best 109 pilots in il2 sturmovik when I was flying the yak 3. Basically the 109 would boom and zoom you but the split-s (yes a split-s) would mean the 109's dive would be too steep to take a shot so he would abort and climb back to his ceiling. by the time he'd come around for another boom and zoom you were a little higher than the last time he tried until eventually you were both at 40,000 feet and then it was a turn fight.
