Arkenbrien
Hello, new user here I installed DCS from Steam, and am greatly enjoying learning how to fly the Frogfoot. Later, I'd like to eventually get into an A-10 and possibly some others. With this in mind, I realize that Steam gets a cut from all purchases, and in this instance, since DCS is available outside of steam, I'd like to purchase directly from here (assuming that the devs get more money this way ;)). Unfortunately, I have a metered internet connection. I was wondering if it was possible to 'cheat' the installation by using the already downloaded steam assets to the new installation folder. The whole reason I want to do this is because all the modules from the store have great big "Steam Incompatible" signs everywhere. If anybody done this before or knows if it's possible I'd appreciate the info. Thanks! :)
cichlidfan
It should work. First, start the download from ED. The bit that you need is the updater which will be the first thing that is downloaded. Once you have that, cancel the download and copy your Steam files over. Next you will want to 'repair' your installation. See this thread for the syntax for the repair command. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 The repair will only download the files that are needed, which should not be much at all. Arkenbrien
Okay sounds good, I'll try that tonight. Thanks! :D
Arkenbrien
Okay so I transferred the steam files over and ran the repair utility with command prompt, and I can play the game. I went ahead and purchased the A-10C module from the site. However, the main menu doesn't recognize the purchase. Furthermore, when I hit the "buy" option for the A-10C in game, it takes me to the steam store. My guess is that it's a separate module. Perhaps deleting that and repairing to get the right module? I'll try that next. Also, is there any way to increase the time before auto-log off? I didn't have time to post the above before logging me out. Thank goodness for copy-paste. cthulhu68
Did you log in on main menu before going to module manager to activate A-10C? A box should appear saying you can install new module. If that's not happening go to DCS homepage. Log in and got o profile and enter serial number in where it says license check and bind to account. About the auto-logout...The website suffers from short term memory loss. Check the "remember me" box to stay logged in until you log out.
Arkenbrien
I am logged on to both the site and the module manager, with no notifications that I can install the new module. Instead, I'm given a buy option that sends me to a link in my browser to the Steam store. I did check the serial number and it is already bound to my account. My guess is that there's a difference between the regular DCS module manager and the Steam-flavored module manager. I'm trying to find out what exactly is the difference with support now, but I'm open to more suggestions. Odds are I'll just re-download the entire thing again. cthulhu68
Not sure if this will work... https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/ "I have a serial number for the module but I can't install it via Module Manager?"
Arkenbrien
So I started to download the .bat file, and upon running it, it started downloading a 500 meg file - which I assume is the A-10C assets. For some reason, I thought that all the modules did was unlock stuff already installed. For 500 megs, I'll just be content with the Frogfoot until the end of the period, then uninstall +reinstall everything then. Thanks for the replies, guys! QuiGon
For some reason, I thought that all the modules did was unlock stuff already installed. Nope, as you can see this is not the case. Modules can be quite large, ranging from a few MB in case of campaigns, to a couple of hundred MB in case of aircraft (cockpit!) or even up to maybe 30-40 GB in case of maps. It would make no sense to have all this stuff in the basic installation ;) Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
