trying my hand at some movies.

So, what do I need to get started in the movie making business?

Software wise, what do you guys use?

I am really interested in this aspect and think I could bring some very interesting content to it. I just need some starter advice

You can find fraps here. It has a free trial.

A cheaper way of editing would be to use Windows Movie Maker, which comes with Windows XP. Vegas does have some cool effects though.

Good luck - looking forward to seeing your work!

Sounds like a good plan to me, thank you for the replies.

I have heard that fraps can degrade system performance quite noticeably, is that true?

Also, given the nature of the movies being a flight simulator, do you think it would be awkward or corny to have dialogue or even some live footage mixed in. I think filters being applied to blend the two together are a must. I am just afraid it might turn out as silly.

Yea it can slow down the system performance quite a lot but there are ways to go around it. For example after you made your track with all the camera angles and such, you play it back and record at half speed (IIRC it was ctrl-a). Then when you are editing, you speed it up by 2x and then you should have your smooth video.

nah, lots of people have dialogues or live footage mixed in. Its your video, you can experiment all you want so have fun with it.
