Flying Bull Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 (edited) I'd love to have the option of using an external device such as iPad running ForeFlight app or similar, showing DCS moving map. I understand the limitations of DCSW essentially using a flat representation of the earth, however with relatively small areas ie, NTTR, Caucuses, SOH - surely this limitation could be overcome with some mathematical adjustments to output data. Would really like someone from ED (Wags?) to comment on feasibility of this feature. This link from ForeFlight describes what is required: https://www.foreflight.com/support/network-gps/ Much appreciated! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Edited March 23, 2017 by Flying Bull

Vitormouraa Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I'm pretty sure the earth isn't flat in DCS. Actually it is, long time ago there was a thread about this, and a dev IIRC said the earth in DCS is actually flat. SplashOneGaming Discord https://splashonegaming.com

Holton181 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Has anyone gotten this to work? I'm trying but am having no luck as of yet.Did you test my MOD in the post before yours? At least one guy except myself got it working eventually over UDP (haven't heard yet if anyone except myself got it working over serial port), look in the suport thread. Eagle_Rising Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 That's what I was referring to. I'm trying to use UDP with your MOD but no success. I've tried a couple of different apps namely NMEAconnect and NMEAgps. I honestly don't know what I'm doing though. I've tried a couple of different apps namely NMEAconnect and NMEAgps. I honestly don't know what I'm doing though. I'm not familiar with Apple products, but I found the apps you mentioned and tried to understand what they are supposed to do. In my understanding (might be wrong) both of these apps has a limited list of specific external GPS devices that they are supported to receive NMEA from. NMEAgps only supports DUAL XGPS150 / 160. The NMEAconnect description is a little bit ambiguous, first saying "NMEAconnect can connect to any NMEA source like TCP/UDP...", but then giving a list of supported devices, hard to tell what they really mean. To make my MOD work the used app need to be able to receive NMEA from an arbitrary source. If I'm wrong, the user Ex_Machina eventually got it working by opening up a UDP (only) port on his/here router, not a UDP/TCP port as he/she tried first, if that might help. But he/she has an Android with an app I use myself though. See if you can find other NMEA client applications, maybe a Bluetooth based one to try the serial port method? Eagle_Rising Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 I’ll have to get a Bluetooth receiver for my computer but I’ll give it a try. Again I barely know what any of this is but does this help at all http:// https://www.foreflight.com/support/network-gps/ I only use Foreflight and have been able to use it with Xplane and FSX in the past Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Are you ready to take your chopper flying skills to the next level? Thanks! I will try to implement it, but I have no possibility to test it myself. I will report back in my dedicated support thread. But I'm away from home a few weeks, so can't do it right away.
