TaktLwG 73 Steinhoff Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Hello guys, Quick question: what are the signal flares used for and what do the different colors mean? Maybe used for communicating with the ground troops?
Zimmerdylan Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Flares were used to mark locations and basic info on what was at that location to near by allied aircraft. I imagine each color was assigned whatever fit the mission or scenario. In DCS, people use them to find each other.
portman Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 In the Eastern Bloc states they were also used to communicate under radio silence. Different colors would mean different actions to be taken e.g. attack a certain target etc. Mancher zum Meister sich erklärt, dem nie das Handwerk ward gelehrt!
javelina1 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 As noted, I'm sure the colors were used to indicate either issues or convey important information if a Radio issue, or Radio silence was underway. In case of my SP & MP missions, when I dispatch a red flare, I'm indicating to the ground crew to have my sandwich ready when I touch down... :-) MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
