Hi everyone, I'm playing Lock On for more than year and a half but only now started to use and play with wingmans.

Therefor, I've encountered some difficulties on using the wingmans and hence looking for some advices and tips.

I was flying an A-10 with a single wingman, in the Edit screen I designated some ground targets so I will see a diamond on them.

I locked on one of them with an AGM-64D and told my wingman to engage my target.

He didn't respond and thus did nothing.

I had to tell him to engage Ground Defences and so he did, he responded with "Engaging Primary Target".

My questions about this scenario are why he didn't engage first when I told him to engage my target? What did I do wrong?

Another scenario was that I flew on a MiG-29A again with a single wingman and again designated the targets in the Edit screen.

I locked on an airborn target and told my wingman to engage my target, he responded and started to manuver towards it.

When he reached the shooting range he declared on the target and asked a permission to attack, and then I got stucked, I didn't know what to do.

I told him to engane bandits, he did'nt respond nor did anything but flying to the target vastly past the shooting range (means he already got very close to it but did nothing).

So my questions are, how do I permit him to attack? How can I tell him to "fire at will"?

Thanks in advance, and if you have some more tips I will be pleased to here them.

P.S.

I'm flying with Lock On FC 1.12a.

the first question with the A-10A: Get your wingman to attack using the "attack ground targets" command, IIRC the "Attack my target" is only useful for letting him engage aerial targets.

Second question, doesn't sound like anything I have ever experienced, it could depend on his loadout on what range he'd engage but I have never had any issues with using "attack my target" command

Firstly, you need to have a lock on the target for them to engage "your target"

If you want them to engage primary, you have to designate primary when you do targetting in mission editor.

With the MIG-29 and your wingman, i have experience a slow response as to engage bandits - most aircraft i have had it happen - but in the end they engaged...the wingman should stick with you in formation until in range then he'll say

"2 engaging bandit"

By saying engage bandits he should go on Fire at Will as you put it.

Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal?

With the MiG-29 I told my wingman to "engage my target" after I locked on it with my radar.

He replied with "engaging target" and flew towards it.

After some time flying, when we reached the shooting range (with R-27) he declared on a target (the target I told him to engage) and ask for a premission to attack, he didn't attack it by himself.

Maybe I should tell him to turn on his radar first and then tell him to "engage my target"?

Thanks for your replies.

Hi,

A few things: If you designate targets in the ME, you tell your wingman to "Engage Ground Targets", he will start with the Primary target (if you've designated one). Otherwise he will start with target #1, then move to #2, etc in the same sequence in which you marked them in the Editor. If you tell him to "Attack Air Defenses" he will attack radar guided SAMs. IR SAMs will be ignored.

You can have him attack a non-designated target by marking it with the CCRP pipper (using the Maverick seeker doesn't work) and telling him to "Engage My Target". I believe this will work for designated targets, too, if you want him to attack a particular one (but it's been a long time since I've used this and I could be wrong).

Concerning air targets: You did it correctly. Lock the target with your radar and tell him to "Engage My Target" Once he responds, you can break your lock and you are free to do whatever you want. If he asks for permission to engage, tell him to "Engage Bandits". (By the same token, if you are flying A2G and he asks permission to go SEAD, you would tell him to "Engage Air Defenses" to let him loose.

The "Mission and rejoin" command from the COMs menu also seems to work pretty well.

Hey Rich, when you step through all of your designated targets using the "next target" key, is there a way to step through them in reverse order? It almost looks like, if you step through them all to the last one, then you're done and can't go back and target the previous ones.

I've never run across a key combo that allowed you to go in reverse order. But I don't recall ever having a problem sequencing through them time and again, if necessary. You mean you've hit the end of the sequence and couldn't get back to #1?

Yup. Or any previous number for that matter. My wingies seem to be content with CCRP orders though...just have to point them close...they take care of the rest, including target prioritization. :D
