Hello! After watching Matt Wagner's video of him over-priming the Spitfire LF Mk IX, it got me thinking about more visual effects for DCS, specifically for the Normandy map.

•Dust effects: After watching many videos of the Normandy map for DCS, I have noticed that there is something missing with the exposed dirt stretches at airfields. The dirt looks quite fine and loose, and easy to be picked up in the wind. Aircraft in DCS should have some dust effects when taxiing (taxying) across exposed sections of dirt on taxiways and runways. Not just props, but all the aircraft. Ground units have a rudimentary effect when they are moving across the ground. I am suggesting that effect gets amplified, applied to aircraft, and made to appear moving away from the source (blades, rotors, fans, etc).

•Mud: I'm thinking that if it rains in Normandy, dirt gets wet, and wet dirt makes mud. I don't know precisely what to say on this, but maybe change the texture for the dirt areas of airfields and such. Make it darker, a bit reflective, and a bit more...swirly? It would also be a cool effect if when you taxi on these muddy areas, you get some mud on your tires. Maybe have textures change, and have a ring of mud wrapping around the outside of the wheels? These would fade as you take off, suggesting mud flinging away.

•Rain on glass: When it rains in DCS, the texture of glass on cockpits remains the same (as far as I can tell). Put simply, we need some rain effects on cockpits. If you're unmoving or really slow, droplets should appear on the glass, and distort vision. However, the faster you go, the more the droplets will move down and backwards along the glass. I must point out, this would be an especially great effect for the KA-50, because there is a wiper function, but it is pointless to use if you can still see clearly, even if it rains.

•More reflections: Typically when an object gets wet, it becomes more reflective of light, giving it a wet appearance (if it's a hard object). Objects that are not hard will become darker. When it rains, aircraft, runways, taxiways, vehicles, and ground units should become more reflective, giving them a wet appearance. This would especially be a cool effect for hard runways and taxiways, like in the Black Sea and NTTR map.

These are just ideas! I am quite aware that some things take quite a bit of work, and there are other problems to tackle first, but this is just trying to get some folks wondering! :smilewink:

In the meantime folks, happy flyin'! :pilotfly:

I would like if glass canopy would loose that glare we get in low sun in NTTR and Normandy as in VR we literally can see nothing when canopy changes colour! As seeing anything was always an achilles heel in DCS as a whole i would like to see anything in way not making any worse than it is, i highly doubt if raindrops help. Maybe as an option tab;)

Good suggestions. But I think these are low priority tasks, as ED is busy in more major work like F-18, Normanday and old map revamping etc.

One day we may see these effects in DCS. Hope for the best

Rain on the canopy is already in the works for 2.5 version, and new rendering and lighting effects have added some new reflections to the game as seen in the 2.1. version Normandy preview in Mudspike forums. So we're getting there.
