The rumor on the street for years is that there is a reason (government or mod) preventing Russian airframes to come to DCS which grew up even more after Razbam had to cancel the 23 (I know something something not having ED green light).

Since rumors suck it would be nice if we had any kind of confirmation as if we can hope for eventually having iconic aircraft from the Russian side in development or the chances are dead.

Have a nice day.

I-16

MiG-19

Tu-22

are in development and I'm sure I've missed some.

The I-16 is somewhat iconic, then we have the MiG-21 which is iconic (but already released), so the chances on iconic aircrafts are still here

While true, also consider that the L39 is a trainer and the rest of the aircraft are very old apart from the Tu-22. And that said, the Tupolev is still in mod-status, so we are unaware at this time if it has been licensed or not, since non-profit mods are legal.

So it could still be that anything relatively new will be kept out of our reach, or the cost for aquiring the licenses is so high that creating a module would never break even.

Just some thoughts.

If you watch the Steam video for DCS it explicitly stated that ED were planning to release a more advanced version of the Su-27 (27SM I think?) but there's a reason that never happened. I believe the reason in this case was that the aircraft is still in use by the Russian air force, is therefore classified and that the view of the Russian MOD was a simple "Nope."

Sadly I think it's unlikely that we'll see modern Russian aircraft to the same extent as the more modern NATO airframes that are in development and/or planned on various road maps.
