Echo0311 Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 What do you guys think about this card? I'll be going from 9600xt 128 to 7950gt, would I see a lot improvements? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143071R Thanks
SuperKungFu Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Keep in mind that Lock On is also cpu dependant as well as gpu. So if you are upgrading to a high end card, it might be wise to maybe cut back to a 7900 or a 7800 and save the money to improve the rest of the comp (if needed). If not, then yea your going to see quite an improvement. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Echo0311 Posted December 7, 2006 Author Posted December 7, 2006 Well, I just got the amd 64 x2 4200 + 2g ram 160g hd etc.. so al I need is a video card. And, 7950gt seems like a good choice, unless u guys recomend something else. I was considering x850xt pe. Thanks
D-Scythe Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 You'll be a happy camper  I like ATI so I would of went with the x850xt. Let me know how it works out for you. The 850XT? Why? If anything, go for the ATI X1950 series - they are the best single-GPU graphic cards available on the market.
suntrace1 Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I can't decide between X1800XT 512MB or X1950Pro 256MB? Would 256MB made much difference or not that much and should be satisfied with the performance from X1950Pro? I'm building it in an old Apple G3 rig, with mATX board from Asrock, Intel E6400 processor and 2GB of ram, running my Dell 2407WFP (24'') in 1920x1200 resolution :helpsmilie: p.s.: I play only Lomac and PES6, if that helps.
Highwayman-Ed Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Cause I like ATI and I hear horror stories about NVIDIA's and there drivers. I have a friend that has a NVIDIA and he is going to switch because of the drivers. I agree I wouls much rather have a X1950 though. I think a lot depends on your mix of CPU to GPU manufacturers too... I used to run ATI cards with AMD chips ever since the Radeon first came out, but my last card (ASUS X800XT) was with an Intel 3.0GHz HT chip and suffered from issues with the Catalyst drivers ever since 6.8 and has never really lived up to it's potential... I'm now running an ASUS GeForce 7950GX2 with an Intel Dual Core X6800 and I'm very happy... Very, very happy :joystick: I'm sure for every person that tells you ATI suck, that you'll find someone that will tell you that NVidia suck.... That's why we don't all drive Ford Model T's! With ATI and AMD being in the same house, I think this division will only get bigger... Guest IguanaKing Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 My cross-fired X1950s work quite well with Cat 6.11 and my X6800 processor. The MoBo is an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe (Intel 975X chipset).
sp0nge Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I've got radeon 9550 sapphire, 3.00 GHz cpu. and 1 gb ram and with everythin on low i only get 32fps ffs :( I USED to get in the 50s....But now it's become quite stupid. I've got the AA and AF on 4.. Perhaps i'll turn them down. :) Maybe i'll buy a whole new rig altogether... Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
