So, the last mission isn't all that complicated. You just have to defeat a couple flights of Hornets while a mass strike force goes for the American carrier group. The problem is the strike group. Not all of them deploy their anti-ship payloads, specifically three Su-34s. They just turn around and hightail back to base, leaving only a Ticonderoga and the carrier left. Played it again and again, same results.

Is something gone wrong on this mission to cause it like this?

If this is from the Su-33 campaign "Sea Dragon", I would also like to hear about this as I'll be starting this one as soon as I figure out how to protect my own task force!

No, it's the "Fortress Mozdok" campaign.

EDIT: The last mission "Davy Jones Locker"(I think.)

I think it is slightly, harder than that, but when all is said and done, all bomber groups must survive and deploy all missiles in one big assault (Half of the missiles fired will never reach the carrier / escorts due to their defenses), if the bomber formation is broken up by even one F-18 and causes a bomber to go defensive, that is multiple missiles than will not be fired, and even if it does lose the bandit and re-assault, all his missiles will be shot down, because the american defenses are no longer overwelmed.

I re-tested mission with the AI flying the player role and used the radio commands to send in the bomber group whilst it was keeping the enemy fighters busy, the Su-34's and Tu-22 do as they were assigned and get most if not all of their missiles off, so long as they aren't engaged by american fighters.

Have checked in Tacview to see results, this shows that they have scored some hits on the carrier and escort ships, but a great deal of the antiship missiles are intercepted by the american defense systems, namely AIM-7 and RIM-66 missiles. End result was the carrier was still afloat because not enough missiles hit it (1 x KH-31p + 7 x KH-22), from memory I think it take about 10.

Things most likely to have changed (Since tested before):

  • RU Su-34 and Tu-22 - anti-ship missiles may have less explosive power.
  • American ship defenses - May have better capabilities to track and destroy incoming anti-ship missiles than before.
  • American ships may be hardier and require more missiles to destroy each of them.

Something must have changed since I rewrote the missions and tested as another user some time ago had reported that he didn't have to do much to complete the mission successfully.

I think it's the ships' strength have improved or the missiles have been weakened. Awhile back someone was asking about this mission and I tested it by removing the NATO flights. At that time all three ships were sunk because of the 4-missile vollies the Su-34's launched in their 2nd wave of missiles. The ships' defenses were simply overwhelmed.

Just reran it this morning and the Normandy and CV were left steaming. All ASM missiles were launched (as before) and a similar number seem to have hit. But the results were completely different with only 1 ship sunk.

Thanks for letting me know, saves me from doing the same tests, similar issues seen in A-10c missions with missile effectiveness being reduced.

So in its "as is" perspective, its an impassable mission?

Unfortunately that seems to be the case. If I get a chance this evening, I'll see if I can make it "passable" for you. If you're comfortable using the Mission Editor, you could actually fix it for yourself. The file is labeled "Mission 9" (I believe) of that campaign. It's in the FC3 Campaign folder.

Here's the edited mission. I changed the tasking to sinking the Carl Vinson alone and focused all the AI firepower on it. I did not change the audio for the mission success to reflect that, however.

I know that the mission can now be "won". Doing it this way might make it too easy, though. I ran it without enemy air power just to make sure the mission was "winnable" at warp speed. But didn't have the time to fly it with their air power intact.
