Greetings again folks.

First let me say I'm aware of the current (extremely WIP) status of tracking VR controllers!

So anyway, does anyone know who on the DCS team is responsible for the fact that we now have a very early implementation?

I would very, very much like to exchange a couple messages with that person, I promise no silly demands or expectations and I would consider any info I was told to be top secret and completely unofficial.

So if anyone can get me in touch (via PM's or whatever) with that guy, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks for your time, and also any discussion of VR hand controller implementation is welcome here, it is after all a forum thread not a personal ad. =P

I really can't see any benefit letting go of your control stick to pickup a Touch controller to activate a switch, over letting go of your control stick to use your mouse to activate a switch.

Hand tracking however - whole different ballgame.

Yep but you should only be letting go of the throttle unless the AP is on. Using voice attack I just say 'mouse' and the cursor appears. If I can get the cursor to the switch I want with head tracking I just say 'click' and if I can't comfortably get there with head tracking I just reach for the track ball. Adapt and overcome.

When you can't see outside the VR environment, and locate and pick up a controller whilst taking hands off hands on devices, then you're seriously compromising the whole VR experience.

So we have 2 options - totally replace the HOTAS system with Oculus controllers or stick to the HOTAS system, and use voice commands and other work rounds.

I know which one I will choose!

I think until VR has matured beyond the 2nd Gen, the question of controllers and the huge investment in time and effort to integrate a stop gap is wasted effort.

Not necessarily - you just hold the control column with your left hand whilst using your right hand to flick switches etc.(IRL flying, and using the mouse in DCS). I sometimes even use my left hand to fly when dogfighting so I can look further over my right shoulder easier.

I also use VA etc - But I think you missed the point of my post.

I get your point re tounch conrollers in general and I agree with it, but no matter what type of controller you reach for, there's no need to not have a hand on the stick and have controll compromised.

The solution is tracked gloves. You can hold the Hotas like real life and then flick switches with your gloved hand. If we had that I would stop arming up on the ground as I hate messing with the mouse once airborne as it break the immersion.

Actually for myself I just want to be able to see my hands in game, planning to try out the Vive controller emulation via Leap Motion so I don't have to pick up a controller. Also I don't plan to flip imaginary switches, I have real ones. I just want to see my hands which is what we have right now.

I hear ya! Try dropping the CL tank on the F-5 in the middle of a dogfight with Aim-9's on the rails using the mouse.

Actually just watched a YT DCS vid of a guy in the F-5 doing just that, and missed the final step...yep you will find that out when you have that perfect tone, and he sure did lol.

Hopefully the tech being shown at the moment which tracks all your fingers might migrate to a glove.

Yea IRL nearly all the switches you need in flight are down the left side and to the middle so you can make switch selections with your left hand. Its why radios in DCS are much harder than real life, you could grab the preset knob without even looking and select the new stud without ever looking away from your lead, while in close, in cloud. Try that in DCS lol
