I've asked this kind of question before, but here goes again.

I don't do multiplayer very often, and each time I try I remember why!

In the last couple of days, I've gone on the RAF662 server as I thought it would be quieter than BS and therfore I would stand more of a chance of spending some time in the sky.

How wrong!

1) joining the server, there are always loads more planes in the sky than is suggested at briefing. Often there will be 1 or 2 109s and 2 or 3 Spits/Mustangs on the list, but when airborne, there are loads more than that. Why is that?

2) every time I go up, I am downed by an (unseen to me) 109 that always downs me with the first set of shots. Incredible accuracy! I am constanly checking the skies and it is a lot easier on that server as it uses quite large labels. Yet, I never see my assailant. Don't understand. If I ever get an enemy in sight, I hardly ever hit after many shots, far less down with one quick blast.

3) in the rules, RAF662 state that there is to be be no shooting at planes that are landing, grounded or taking off. Well, every time I try to land I am shot at, and on the odd occasion where I have managed to land, I then get shot at on the ground. Is this behaviour normal?

Sounds like you are playing on servers with A.I. (e.g. RAF662)

 

There is no point having rules on a server, if there is A.I.

The A.I. ignore the rules. They will attack you wherever you are, and they do not show up as "players" in the list.

 

Also, personal gripe, the banning of attacking people who are taking off and landing is cheap, IMO.

Mission makers need to learn to use more spawn bases, and people taking off need to check the airspace is clear before taking off.

Thanks Phil, yes, I said it was RAF662! So, that has AI? How can I tell which server has AI and which doesn't?

That’s a pity. It would be useful to list that along with all the other stuff on the right hand side.

I jumped into a server the other night, with a SU-27 flying loops over Nellis. Any time a new jet spawned, he would immediately destroy it. I tried 4 times to get my aircraft going quick enough, to no avail. I called out on SRS and text for any aircraft in the air to come help, but over time, everyone was dead, and couldn't spawn.

 

I get that it's a thing that COULD, however unlikely, happen in real life, but there is a point where it just gets a little over the top.
