ncimike3 Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 (edited) I've come to love Helios and won't fly without it. My old Acer touchscreen broke so I bit the bullet and bought a new one for approx $350. I then upgraded my computer will new M/B, ram, and cpu. I installed a fresh copy of windows 10, installed all the windows updates and video drivers for my GTX 980i. Now Helios won't work. The editor won't even start. The Control center launches, then crashes. I've read as many of the posts as possible and tried solutions that worked for others. But I have yet to find success. Can anyone offer ideas of possible things to try? Is anyone aware of any incompatible elements of windows, direct X, Nvidia or anything else that could be causing the crash? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ncimike3 Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 Update: I did a full blown reinstall of windows and Helios now works! However, after loading Loz's A-10 profile I couldn't get the binding working to my gauges. For some reason the export.lua file wouldn't work. Finally after reading alot of forum post's I tried using the export.lua from Capt Zeen's web page and boom! The gauges started working just fine. Hope this helps anyone who has the same problem. Fakum Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 I am almost in a similar situation, and that is a new build after 5 years. Not all the files I used years ago, and the instructions to install are valid. Is there a new thread somewhere that brings this all up to date as to what files are needed where to get Helios up and running on Win 10 and the latest version of DCS OpenBeta? maybe even another website that covers this as http://www.gadrocsworkshop.com/ is a bit outdated. Fakum Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I suspected there would not be much response to this as the process seems to be painstaking. After fumbling around for a day, and not getting it all to work, I would up using my old PC Documents/Helios and User/Saved Games/ DCS.open beta files and copying them to the new PC (I did save the original files by just renaming them in case it all wenr south.). Then I installed JSGME and used Export all by Snacko and right now, all seems well Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
sobe Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I have been running Helios with the latest version of Win10 and no issues. Just used the exports by Snacko. Fakum Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Yeah, I got it working, but as you know, I was looking into Ikarus as it is still supported. I have 2 gaming rigs with Windows 10, the older one (when Win 10 was released) was an upgrade from Win7, and it already had Helios working on it fine. This new PC is a fresh install of Win 10, Like i said though, I wound up having to copy over the Helios and Saved Games DCS OpenBeta file over to new PC to get Helios to work, and with exports from Snacko from my old PC, but thanks.
