Hovis Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Hi, I'm surely this is a popular thing and commonly donw but I cannot find any run through anywhere on the internet. Anyway, when restarting the mirage I don't want to sit for 8 mins waiting for the INS alignment, I have read through the manual and it clearly outlines the process for the 90 second memory alignment. Don't screw with co-ordinates and follow the procedure. Ok, so I do that, complete it and hit NAV mode and the N.DEG light appears, according to manual it means INS needs aligning...(only lit when in NAV, when in ALCM or ALN it goes out) If i switch back to either ALN or ALCM the VAL light is not lit and it says it doesnt need aligning. So, am I doing the procedure wrong? When I do the mem alignment it counts into negative and goes 100-0 but the green PRET light doesnt appear, it just says 000 ion the right display. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Azrayen Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 In DCS, the memory alignement works only for a "re-start" after a rearm/refuel. That means you have to maintain power to the INS, otherwise it's not a re-start, but just a start. Did you do that? (=GPU on before switching off the engine). You also have to wait for the rearm/refuel to be finished before switching to ALCM and pressing [VAL]. During the rearm/refuel, you can edit point 00 coordinates, to make them more accurate (i.e. cancelling any drift you had when you landed). 1
Hovis Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Aha, thanks. In the manual it only says it can be used if the aircraft hasnt moved. I've been shutting it down, getting the refuelk/re arm, switching on ground power and doing it then Although surely if INS still has power an alignment isnt required?

IRL I don't know but it the sim if you change your load-out you have to do an ALCM. 1 Helljumper - M2000C Guru Helljumper's Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK3rTjezLUxPbWHvJJ3W2fA
Hovis Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Right, thanks a lot. Really cleared it all up :) Still a shame it takes so long to begin with
myHelljumper Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Right, thanks a lot. Really cleared it all up :) Still a shame it takes so long to begin with In fact it's not "that" long, IIRC on the 2000N and 2000D the alignment can take up to 30 minutes :D. I'm sure Azrayen will be able to affirm or deny this ;). I think the F/A-18C alignment time was about the same if not longer in some conditions. If it bother you too much you can disable the alignment in the special option tab, you will still have drift and be able to use the INS ;).
