ground vehicles on the road span with wrong heading

I'm currently working on a simple mission including a ground vehicle, that is suppose to follow a road through a city towards an airport.

I noticed that the vehicle's heading, although automatically assigned according to the road direction, is not correct and can lead to the vehicle not being able to follow the road.

I attached the mission to showcase this bug. You will need nttr Nevada map to lead the mission.

The vehicle is according to the editor suppose to be heading north but is actually heading north east. It then leaves the road and gets stuck in a building.

I wanted to hear others opinion about this before creating a bug ticket.

I am at work, so I can't look at the mission, but are you certain your next WP is assigned to the road, and not just placed on the road? I do not mean to insult your intelligence, but since I'm retarded myself I tend to look for retarded things. :)

kunterbunt, I can't test your mission... I use ver 1.5.7, but having built missions for several years I have noticed that vehicles starting on roads can easily have their starting point heading skewed by various things like just touching them with the mouse pointer. Just moving the start waypoint along the road can sometimes cause the vehicles heading, which was OK before, to change so it is no longer aligned with the road and the direction you want them to start. Check the direction of the starting waypoint on the heading indicator and make sure it is aligned with the direction of the road and the way you want the vehicles to be oriented when they first appear in the mission. Also make sure you have the "initial" box checked.

Note that in the second screenshot below, the vehicles will initially move around in confusion at first trying to orient themselves to get on the road and in the proper direction to follow the waypoints. Sometimes this isn't a problem but if there's a building or obstacle nearby, I can see how they might get stuck.

Hi Winston 60, interesting but not what I see. The editor shows correct heading, but then when the mission starts, the vehicle is heading wrong.

Thanks Panhead, both way-points are on the road, which is pretty obvious in the editor, as the road is curvy through the city. It looks similar as the post from Winston 60.

Oh Winston 60, Initial did the job. Still strange that this has to be checked on the road.

So, this is not a bug, one just needs to know how to us the editor.

 I'm glad that worked for you. It seems if you don't check "Initial", the start heading on roads seems to be random. :dunno:

ahhhhh....

Is this why sometimes you place on roads and the vehicles all do this shuffle at first until they get sorted? I never really thought about it before!

Exactly!
