Bogey Jammer Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Yeah, I really need a calculator within DCS. Let's hear the hardcore simulation situation : I usually calculate the fuel amount needed for my sortie with the Mi-8, especially for multi-player tasks where I must create my flight plan from scratch every time. The trouble arrived with the VR headset preventing me to read the charts I inserted in the kneeboard inside simulation, and my real calculator without putting on and off the headset every second. A basic arithmetic calculator is sufficient but if the idea is coming true, please add some memory slots for storing values since it's very convenient due to the multiple steps required for fuel consumption calculation. :D I'll buy : МиГ-23МЛД & МЛА МиГ-27К МиГ-25 Mirage III F-4E any IJ plane 1950' Korea Dynamic campaign module
Jumbik Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Is it possible to view "windows" calculator in VR? I suppose no? :D Anyway this could be done by some clever use of Kneeboard. I believe there are even mods for interactive kneeboards if I'm not mistaken. Do, or do not, there is no try. -------------------------------------------------------- Sapphire Nitro+ Rx Vega 64, i7 4790K ... etc. etc.
MikeMikeJuliet Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 The other solution would be to make rule-of-thumb values for fuel quantities. That said, it would be handy to have the load-out window in-game that would show your fuel amount in endurance/range in addition to the % of fuel. Naturally this would only be true for a certain throttle setting and a certain flight profile, but there could be some generic values to give you at least an idea of what your fuel amount means. Bogey Jammer Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 I believe there are even mods for interactive kneeboards if I'm not mistaken. I would love to see that. If it's true I'd start to create a flight planner directly , and the calculator… The other solution would be to make rule-of-thumb values for fuel quantities. I'm afraid that it's too simple and not accurate enough. There are too much variables to be taken in account. Home Fries Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 (edited) I'm afraid that it's too simple and not accurate enough. There are too much variables to be taken in account. We used to use rules of thumb all the time because it gets difficult to do complex arithmetic the faster you are moving (what we call the "weight-on-butt switch"). You can do nth degree fuel estimates in preflight and compare what you should have with your gauge at different waypoints to see how you are "on schedule" for your burn rate. You should know how much reserve you have, then use rules of thumb to estimate your state at initial approach. If you're too close to running out of gas to trust rules of thumb, then you should RTB before you lose your fuel reserve. Bogey Jammer Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 What kind of calculations are we talking about, just to get a clearer picture? Picking values from the tables depending of the weight, altitudes, helicopter configuration, some coefficient applications depending on power-hungry utilized equipment, sum everything, redo if the initial weight estimation is too different… It's not rocket science but so gratifying to do it the correct way. Check the manual it's all in there. Unfortunately, no :( Dare to try this ? :renske: I'll check that out later. Many aircraft also have Nomogrammes for the purpose... the multi-graph pages where you trace a line from one graph to the next to get values out of in one go, though I would assume creating one is a tedious task if the manual doesn't include any... Bogey Jammer Posted September 15, 2017 Author Posted September 15, 2017 I tried V, it works, a very promising piece of software. But I see the injection with the left eye only, the menu keeps opening and folding with the sound of the cable on my shoulder. Can open online websites only, html pages on local drive are not displayed. The mouse is not supported so the pointer arrow is movable with the joypad stick. It is very difficult to click on a calculator's buttons with it. QWERTY only is emulated and the numpad's ver num doesn't work. In the end it's not a better solution yet for my problem.
