Black Sea Operations 30 Mission F-15 Campaign Taster.

12 January Update:

Black Sea Operations – Operation Tartar

Here are the first eight missions of what could turn out to be a 30 sortie campaign.

http://www.dpsflight.com/F15OpTartar.htm

Assigning goals/targets without giving away who the bad guys are proved to be quite tricky. For several of the missions you could simply hit ‘Esc’ to move on to the next one. I’ve also tried to avoid relying on AI colleagues to do their job properly – unfortunately some of them will just jettison their load at the very sight of the enemy coast ahead.

If your interested, let me know what you think of the campaign so far.

I was up to Mission 7 by the 9th and I’m just putting the finishing touches to Mission 8 this morning. I’ve got loads of spare time from the end of this week, so I should have the whole lot completed by the 19th of this month.

Any thoughts on very long missions where nothing happens (like in real life) such as BARCAPS? Take-off, fly the pattern for hours (or Ctrl AAA) and watch the sun set. I could introduce a re-fuelling and you could watch the sun rise too.

In fact I’ll post the first eight missions up to the web site tomorrow so you can have a preview and post comments.

IIRC Yes, this has nothing to do with T-Bones BSO.

Just like the current "Crimean Air Wars" pack has nothing to do with the very successful dynamic On-line campaign which was run by (504)-MrWolf & Co of the same name during vers. 1.02 & (for a time) during 1.1.

1st mission

>Before you taxi out to the runway, what hazard has the Ukrainian ground >crew thoughtlessly left for you? Post your answer on the forum please.

Umm. There was a truck parked right behind the F15 in the first mission.

Correct answer?

Carlos73, correct. 10/10 for airmanship.

Just checked my site stats and there hasn't been a great deal of interest in this campaign so far compared with those I've done for the A-10 or Flanker. Perhaps the F-15 isn't as popular with the players.

Operation Tartar takes place during a fictional conflict in which you fly a USAF F-15C against Russian adversaries.

February 1995. Following the discovery of Russian theatre ballistic missiles deployed in the Peoples Republic of Jamaica, tensions are rising across the free world.

Large scale Russian manoeuvres are currently taking place in eastern Krasnodar and it is feared that an invasion of neutral Georgia is imminent.

NATO is building up its forces in the southern Ukraine with the intention of deterring any hostile moves by the Russians in the Black Sea region.

You have been called out of reserve and ordered to report for duty at the 515th Combat Training Squadron. No more flying a nice, shiny TWA Boeing for you for a while. You will be put through accelerated refresher training on the F-15C before being returned to your former unit, the 58th Fighter Squadron.

Mission 1 Aircraft Familiarisation

Day 1. 08:00 Hrs. The Ukrainian Air Force 246th Strike/Bomber Regiment at Kirovskoye Air Base in the Crimea is playing host to the 515th Combat Training Squadron. Your aircraft awaits you on the apron. Kick the tyres and light the fires, fly a couple of circuits then intercept, and formate with, the two F-5s returning to the airfield from the south.

Your instructor will be watching from the control tower. Before you taxi out to the runway, what hazard has the Ukrainian ground crew thoughtlessly left for you?

Your call-sign: Tyro 13

Weather is fine, 30 F with sky clear. Wind 250/10

AWACS not available.

Emergency landing field: Oktyabrskoye Air Base (SP2).

Mission 2 Formation Flying & Low Visibility Landing.

Day 2. 08:15 Hrs. Fog has formed overnight and the visibility is down to 1,000 ft, but this isn’t going to stop you flying today.

Your wingman, 2d Lt P. Prune, a seasoned regular, has just arrived from Elgin Air Force Base in Florida and is already airborne to provide you with some intercept/formation flying practice.

Take-off as soon as possible and climb to 15,000 ft. As you approach SP1 at 08:30 Hrs use your radar to locate and intercept 2d Lt Prune. He will lead you to a refuelling rendezvous with a KC-10 tanker. Take 3000 lbs of fuel and return to Kirovskoye Air Base (SP3).

Your call-sign: Uzi 11

Weather is fine, 32 F with sky clear. Wind 280/05

AWACS not available.

Emergency landing field: Oktyabrskoye Air Base (SP4).

Mission 3 Weapons Training at SakiFiringRange.

Day 2. 15:30 Hrs. Get airborne with your wingman and fly across to the Saki Firing Range (SP2) at 15,000 ft to arrive at 15:45 Hrs. Three QF-4E drones will be launched at 90 second intervals from Belbek. Shoot down the first one with an AIM-7 missile, engage the second with an AIM-9 and destroy the third one with your cannon.

Your call-sign: Enfield 11

Weather is fine, 32 F with scattered cloud at 3,000 ft. Wind 240/15

AWACS not available.

Home Plate: Kirovskoye Air Base (SP3)

Emergency landing field: Oktyabrskoye Air Base (SP4).

Mission 4 War Games.

Day 3. 09:30 Hrs. VFC-13 ‘Fighting Saints’ Aggressor Squadron is already airborne in order to check your air combat ability. If you can pass this test you will be considered fit to return to duty with the 58th Fighter Squadron.

Get airborne with your wingman and head east on the pre-planned route at 20,000 ft. As you approach SP2 at 09:55 Hrs locate VFC-13s F-5s using TWS.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian warships and air defence radars have been locking-up NATO aircraft. If you are attacked you may return fire as necessary to defend yourself.

Your call-sign: Springfield 11

Weather is fine, 28 F with scattered cloud at 3,000 ft. Wind 270/15

AWACS not available.

Home Plate: Kirovskoye Air Base (SP3)

Emergency landing field: Oktyabrskoye Air Base (SP4).

Mission 5 Quick Reaction Alert

Day 3. 15:30 Hrs. An attempted coup d’état has taken place in Georgia. Rebel units of the Georgian army have taken control of the city of Gudauta and also the neighbouring air base, home to two regiments equipped with Su-25 attack aircraft.

You are already sitting in your aircraft on the apron on Quick Reaction Alert duty. An AWACS aircraft is already airborne and has detected a pair of unidentified aircraft 15 miles west of Anapa heading straight for Kirovskoye. Start engines and take-off immediately. If they won’t turn back you are authorized to shoot them down.

Your call-sign: Enfield 11

Weather is fine, 30 F with scattered cloud at 3,500 ft. Wind 270/20.

AWACS available.

Home Plate: Kirovskoye Air Base (SP3)

Emergency landing field: Oktyabrskoye Air Base (SP4).

Mission 6 Reconnaissance Escort

Day 4 07:45 Hrs. Due to the amount of damage at Kirovskoye Air Base and the risk of further air raids on the eastern Crimea all NATO air units have been redeployed further to the west. You have been reassigned to Gvardeyskoye Air Base, home of the 58th Fighter Squadron.

An F-14 of VF-33 has been launched from the carrier USS America, currently cruising in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Its mission is to photograph Gudauta Air Base (SP4). A rendezvous will take place at 42 56 N 37 29 E (SP2). A KC-10 tanker will be on station at 20,000 ft at 08:12 Hrs. An S-3B will be available to refuel the F-14.

Remain with the F-14 until it has completed its mission over Gudauta. If any aircraft get airborne from Gudauta you are to shoot them down.

Your call-sign: Pontiac 11

Weather is fine, 25 F with scattered cloud at 2,500 ft. Wind calm.

AWACS available.

Home Plate: Gvardeyskoye Air Base (SP6)

Emergency landing field: Saki Air Base (SP7).

Mission 7 Strike Escort

Day 4 17:55 Hrs. The German Air Force elite all-female Jagdgeschwader 174 “Kreuzberg", lead by the renowned fighter ace Oberstleutnant Élise von Krieg (353 kills) and her wingman Oberleutnant Anke Volltreffer have arrived at the neighbouring air base at Simferopol.

It is clear that rebel elements of the Georgian Air Force are using Gudauta to launch attacks on NATO units. Jagdgeschwader 174 has been ordered to put the airbase out of action.

Rendezvous with the two Jagdgeschwader 174 F-4Es at 18:14 Hrs at (SP2) and remain in the target area until they have completed their task. Time on Target (Gudauta Air Base) 19:15 Hrs.

A refuelling rendezvous will take place at 43 47 N 37 21 E (SP6). A KC-10 tanker will be on station at 20,000 ft at 19:57 Hrs.

Your call-sign: Chevy 11

Weather is fine, 30 F with scattered cloud at 3,500 ft. Wind calm.

AWACS available.

Home Plate: Gvardeyskoye Air Base (SP7)

Emergency landing field: Saki Air Base (SP8).

I've flown halfway through Tartar and have to say it's one of the best LOMAC campaigns I've ever played. Love the way you ease us into the basics, followed by the heavy stuff. Thanks to you, I completed my first ever Air Refuelling, a moment I won't soon forget.

For LOMAC fans everywhere, I beg you not to give up the good work!

Thanks, GunSlingerAUS, I think you must be one of the few who have got something out of it. However, interest in my campaigns has really died away since I did the likes of Operation Thunderclap almost a year ago.

I was going to build Operation Tartar up to 30 missions but I couldn't bring myself to do all that work for so few players. Instead, I built Dive Bombing for Dummies:

I think there may be scope for a 30 mission Hog campaign. It's always easier to match player, targets and goals with that ground-pounding type. I'm pretty sure that my A-10 missions were the most popular anyway. And it's easier in A2A refuelling too!

hog campaign?

I think there may be scope for a 30 mission Hog campaign.

Took me 2 evenings to practice and get aerial refueling done. Damn it was hard to get right. Ironhands tutorial was most helpful.

How about SU-25 campaign? You seem to have already made several for A-10. :)

Glad to see that a few of you have had a go. Has anyone got through to Mission 8 yet?

Carlos73, there is a single Su-25T mission here:

http://www.dpsflight.com/CampaignList.htm

at the very bottom of the page. The T variant looks great but I haven't had time to learn all the new systems even though I have had BS installed for the best part of a year now.

I still think a large A-10 campaign might get a bigger audience. Even the normally enthusiastic crowd at checksix-fr.com have been quite cool in their reponse to Operation Tartar.

dps, i managed my first low visability landing using ils in mission 2 after the refuelling that took me many attempts to hook up, i am still struggling with the way you get guided into the airbase with the us navigation but thats another story.

anyway i was so happy to have finally landed in one piece when i could not even see the runway, i was stoked:thumbup:

please keep em coming, just finished my mission 3 weapons training over saki and now i am off to enter the war games.
