Mustang Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 New year, new catalyst :) http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html
Mustang Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Unfortunatly not much benifit for me :D Yeah, basically same for me too since i'm an owner of a "lowly" X800XT :P there are some benefits, the new AA modes are still evolving and do affect LOMAC in some areas, as seen in the 6.12 thread. FYI though, 7.1 seems to be, as ever with most of ATI's drivers, fine with Lockon and so far have seen no probs with them, i'll be reading through other forums (ie Rage3D and DriverHeaven) for any tips or enhancements.
Pilotasso Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I dont even use AA lol, that might change in a couple months though, depending on the time I have free after starting work on my new job, I may or not decide to buy BS and a new PC. .
Kuky Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Well I installed them last night. I thing these drivers are just fine, might be just my impression but it feels like AF seems to has little less impact on frame rate. I had a quick try on missing with full overclouds... the frame rate was quite good. Seemed to me to be much better then what I noticed before with previous drivers. Before I used to get some strange looking flickering of the cloud layers... but with these it was really stable. But... I managed to run a mission with full overclous only once, as every next time I tried it, Lock-On would crash to desktop :( Edit: Looks like I got overcast to actually work now... I ran numerous missions will full overcast and no CTD yet. I think that if you disable AA and AF then start a mission, then set AA and AF back to desired is what fixes it ?! :) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Guest IguanaKing Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 This one works really well for me, thanks for the link Mustang! I agree with Kuky, the overcast and several other things in LOMAC look GOBS better with these drivers. I'm up to 11,389 in 3DMARK06 now too. :D But that may have also been helped by my recent addition of an X-Fi Platinum. OMG...I LOVE that new sound system...just when I thought it didn't get any better than the Audigy 2...it did! :D
Kuky Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Edit: Looks like I got overcast to actually work now... I ran numerous missions will full overcast and no CTD yet. I think that if you disable AA and AF then start a mission, then set AA and AF back to desired is what fixes it ?! :) An update on this... I am getting a CTD again every time I have a mission with full overcast... so Cat's 7.1 didn't cure this. Guest IguanaKing Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Kuky, have you tried setting your processor back to its default speed?
Kuky Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 No I haven't... I've been running it at 3GHz since I bought it back in September I think, I never had any problem with lock on before with it, I get CTD only now, I think they have to be ATI driver issue... I'm just too lazy to test with older Cat's PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
