i was amazed at DCS 2.1 in nevada, flying in the instant mission.

the last two days, i been having problems flying in nevada multiplayer, particularly the F99 server.

all the time, loading is sluggish when joining a the server.

half the time DCS just crashes out.

when i am able to get into a plane and start flying, after 10-15 mins, DCS dissapears and i am back to the desktop.

i have an i7 with a 1080Ti... 16GB of system memory..

what am i doing wrong?

i followed the video on VR settings, and also used the default settings, and i am experiencing so may crashes to desktop..

please help..

turn all settings to low and see if it is the same. multiplayer really effects preformance.

i can normally run medium settings in single player with my pimax and pd at 1.5 in multiplayer i have to run pd 1.0 and everything on the lowest.

One thing to remember in MP, is that there usually is one of each module, and the more active the server is, the higher the chance of many modules being used, different liveries, different AI units etc etc. So the memory fills up really quick, and if you arent running of a SSD, the loading times get really long, and swapping becomes a real problem.

One of the areas that ED could optimize I think, is that AI and other players, dont use full res skins - at least give the player the option to chose. The amount of 4K textures for just a single air frame is very high, or just livery. And how often do you actually see AI/opponent/other players that close up, that numerous 4K textures are shown without mip. Goes for the model lods too. Several of the LODs have far to high a polycount, for the distance they are actually shown at. Ive seen 150K+ at 100m plus. There is no way you can make out that detail, at that distance. A 1/10 of that polycount maybe.

Not that it helps you though, but as frogger suggests, try setting your textures to low or med. Your cockpit will remain high, while everything outside the cockpit will use low.

Hard to say, but give it a shot, and allow Windows to manage your page file. Cant hurt.

Having an SSD and 32 gigs of memory, I've turned off my swap file, force using memory is a lot quicker. I still don't use more than approx. 12 gigs and my system is snappier.
