Hi guys! Heres a question for either ED or a knowledgeable user. How does dynamic weather work? I have tried adding it to a mission or two but im not sure what is going on with it or how to set parameters etc... I have looked for answers and cannot find them. Thanks!

First let me make it clear that I have NOT used the dynamic weather in any missions but I am familiar with the option.

From what I can tell, it helps to be familiar with Meteorological Symbology (the same symbology used by Meteorologists to create weather forecasts etc). Those symbols look "like" "F's" with several perpendicular lines.

As well, understanding how Low Pressures and High Pressures (or pressure areas) interact with each other and different temperature and moisture ranges and variables etc. Weather Fronts, barometric pressures etc etc.

It appears that with the above knowledge one can create a complex weather system (or systems) that will create changing climate in different areas.

That's the best I can do to help at this point.

I'm sure there are several people who have utilized this option for missions who will be able to help you out. But I suggest a wee bit of study in the areas mentioned above will be helpful.

In the meantime, I have attached some examples of the symbology that I am referring to. I think you need to understand this type of thing in order to make the best use of dynamic weather systems in DCS.

Funny, I was reading on that today... unsure how to post/share stuff but if you do a google search for "dcs weather yakbeard" you will find a nice pdf document.

There are a couple of topic related videos worth watching in the same search results.

Thanks. I'll check out the PDF too.

One figure to keep in mind is that the standard atmospheric pressure is about 103,000 Pa and the record lowest on Earth has been 87% of that. 1% is about 1000 Pa. The randomized values tend to be quite large especially if several are close together.

The strength of the wind depends on the pressure anamoly relative to each other and the standard value.

You probably want to press the generate button with 2-4 pressure centers until you get the formation you want without consideration of their magnitude. Then manually adjust their pressure deviations to fine tune the behavior.
