I have two obsessions in simulations, great touch to detail (like the Mi-8 kerosene heater, they even simulated the exhaust smoke, I'm in love)

And an unhealthy love for mines and minefields. Unfortunately DCS doesn't have the latter. I can understand for latency issues you wouldn't want players to spam mines, but mission creators can just remove them like they remove nukes.

I like to simulate battlefield frontlines and I witnessed many missed opportunities for an airdropped minefield, now I don't know if it's a matter of DCS not being able to support "trigger activated explosives" or third party developers never giving a second thought into implementing mine droplets, I just wanted to get the word out there, let's see what you guys think.

I do understand your wishes and I think it would be ok for anybody who likes it, but DCS is a flight simulator not an infantry game. On the other hand, if you want mines (explosions), you have the possibility to set trigger zones and when group X or what ever you want blow up enters the zone... BOOM !

Not what you`re looking for ? Sure someone will be able to create a mod.

What goes up, must come down !

I don't think this is true. The Ka-50 has this:

KMGU-2 Sub-Munition Dispenser

The KMGU-2 (“General Container for Small-Sized sub-munitions”) is designed to dispense small caliber bomblets and air-deployed mines. The sub-munitions are placed in the dispenser in cartridges (BKF – “container blocks for frontal aviation”). The KMGU-2 consists of a cylindrical body with front and rear cowlings and contains 8 BKF cartridges filled with bomblets or mines, carried in specialized slots. The dispenser doors are pneumatically actuated to dispense the sub-munitions.

But yeah, generally speaking, you're right. I've never seen this thing beeing used by anyone :D

DCS is not restricted on air combat, hence the key words "Air Sea Land Combat":

We also have the Combined Arms module. Other ground and naval modules will follow.

For the Ka-50, I know the manual says the droplets have mines, but I heard both submunitions were cluster bombs, one for infrantry, the other for light armored vehicles.

If they do have the simulation for mines, well it's not for infrantry obviously, the Ka-50 itself could transport airdropped anti-tank mines. Apparently the Bulgarians even have anti-helicopter mine designs, lol

And well, if third party developers start designing mines, then maybe there could be demining vehicles too, I know the Mi-8BT is specialized for mine clearing. Can you see where I'm getting at now? That would add a whole new level to the game.

ex81, you're right in that it's not an infantry game, but it's not Ace Combat either. It's a simulation. And in real life there's much more to military aviation than just combat. That's what I'm looking for, and I think DCS has a great potential for that.

Indeed, the manual states mine capability it is there, but I also doubt it. I have never tried it though, but I don't think there is a functional weapon class for mines within DCS atm. I might be wront, I'm just guessing.

There are mines available to use in DCS I have used them a number of times. You will find them in the ME under Statics......Structures.......Landmine.....they are fully functioning or the last time I used them in a mission they were. I hope this helps. Cheers
