iVVChewy9141VVi Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 (edited) What size SSD would be good for DCS? I will not be installing any mods. Just official Modules and Terrains. Also i will only have 2.0+ on the SSD i will not have multi installs of DCS like 1.5 and all that. With 2.5, SOH and the hornet coming i worry if 500GB is more then enough for say about 2 more years. The only modules i will probably get is the jets. The F-18,Harrier,M2000,f-5 and l39 Edited November 26, 2017 by iVVChewy9141VVi
javelina1 Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 If you're only going to run 2.x, and no MOD's, I think you'll be fine with a 500GB SSD. This is providing you only install DCS on that drive, (it's dedicated). I've been running 3x versions of DCS, on a 256GB SSD. With MOD's. Cutting it kind of close, with only 40-50GB's free......... BitMaster Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 Well, I just put a new NVMe Samsung 960 Evo 250GB in my rig today, just for DCS ( 3 versions, stable, beta and openalpha ). Out of 232GB NTFS 93 are still available = enough free space for the SSD to work with. If it is ONLY for DCS ( stable + beta + openalpha ) a 250 is plenty as you can see. If you are like BigNewy or likely most DCS Testpilots and host a gazillion of DCS versions from the dev tree, than I guess 1TB or more is welcome :) I have 1 SSD 850Pro for OS and a separate one for apps, which in my case is splitt across 3 SSD's , each 250/256GB in size. Actually a single 2nd SSD of 1TB would make FAR more sense, but I bought them over 2 years time, one after the other. My system is FULL, cant add any more on Sata and if I add the 2nd NVMe I have to disconnect Sata 5+6, those are my 2 HDD drives. That stupid Z370 Chipset is the same, 6+1 or 4+2 Sata+M2_PCIe Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
iVVChewy9141VVi Posted November 26, 2017 Author Posted November 26, 2017 Thanks BitMaster, Ill probably get a 500GB just to play it safe. Most of my time will be flown in the Hornet anyway. If anything else. Just want to make sure 500GB is enough. I like to separate all my stuff. 500GB for DCS and 1TB for Steam on SSD
iVVChewy9141VVi Posted November 26, 2017 Author Posted November 26, 2017 Going for a 1TB would be a waste i guess if i would do below DCS 2.0 (Waiting for 2.5) All modules and new maps normandy and soh when its out !!! Sorry Edit button not working for above post!!!
