Zoney - happy to try and help - can you attach a copy of your mission file and I will take a look (sounds to me like you haven't set the mission activity for the tanker to start refueling at the first waypoint)

Thanks Hornblower! I've attached the file. Thanks for the help!

Hi Lt. I've been afflicted with the same problem for sometime now. In fact, my config window doesn't even show my go to module (F/A-18), although I have it mapped accordingly. Now that I've sorted out a number of other VA and VCP issues, I'll be doing a deep dive into this. If and when I figure it out, I'll pass along my findings. Also look to MAXStenna and Hornblower793 for helpful advice. They are the best. Hang in there and, stay safe.

@mike pavitt When you don't see confidence levels in the log during training mode there's something not right.

Read the user manual on Keywords Training again carefully, specifically make sure you are enabling the round mic icon in the speech recognition window.

As stated in the manual, adding words to the speech dictionary should be necessary for no more than just a small number of stubborn words.

Which ones, varies per user.

In any case the engine will improve recognition rates the more you use it.

Hi Hollywood,

Thanks for your reply. Everything is enabled correctly (I believe - orange mic in the app, blue and listening mic in speech recognition etc), every time I speak a word or phrase in training mode I get an alternate phrase pop-up from speech recognition. Sometimes what I've said is listed as an option, and then I can say Option 3 OK for example and move on, but I still never get a confidence level whilst training, and I get a pop up EVERY time I speak.

If I come out of training mode in Vaicom and use PTT without DCS running it will recognise quite a few phrases and shows a confidence level, so far anywhere from 45 to 90%.

I've no idea what I'm doing wrong, everything else seems to work including Chatter module. One thing I did notice whilst in DCS was the the comms menu keeps appearing and disappearing, so I don't know if this gives a clue that something isn't installed correctly? I'm reluctant to uninstall and re-install in case I have to start back from square 1.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Mike

If you are in VA and do not have DCS loaded it will always say this - if you are in a plane in DCS and then bring up the VAICOM config window, what does it say?

Ok, Ingame Vaicom says EasyComm = off. But still same Problems with communication (If I set a frequency of an airport in the F-18, for example Kutaesi 133,000 I can speak to the tower via Vaicom. But if I want to land on Kobuleti, set the new frequency, for example the 134,000 and then say "Inbound", Vaicom still speaks to Kutaesi. Sometimes even to the Stennis although a completely different frequency is set.)

Hey Mike! Just to make sure. You are aware that "training" that way is just to see how you're doing right? It doesn't save anything or make speech recognition better in any way.

On a different note. Som VA tips I'll pass along.

Try to say "select Kobuleti" after you change channels.

Mike, as promised earlier, here is the link to the dcs scratchpad i use

the kneeboard builder itself can be found at

http://www.dcskneeboardbuilder.com/

you can use this to generate your own custom pages for extra information you may find useful

I have also attached my simple profile in which I store some of my non-VAICOM DCS commands - you can import this into Voiceattack as a profile and set VAICOM to also use these commands. To do this, select VAICOM as the profile in the VA window and then hit the pencil icon. In the window that appears click on the Options button (top left next to the profile name) and then click on the ... button for Include commands from other profiles: and pick the standard commands profile (or whatever you have called it).

I am sure there may be better ways to code some of it but looking through the commands may be of some help

Hi MAXsenna,

I hadn't realised that it's not training the speech engine that way, but regardless, without being able to see the confidence levels in the log I have no idea what is and isn't being recognised. I'd been through the VA page you linked, and have tried all of that. I've tried 4 different microphones etc. My problem is that the software is not behaving on my system as it does in the tutorial videos - every time I speak I get a seperate pop-up window from MS Speech Recognition, but no confidence level in the VA/Vaicom programme, so I have no idea what I need to go and sort out in the speech dictionary.

I'll do it the long way round if I have to, but I don't believe this is correct behaviour, so I want to get it sorted before I start actually trying to use it in DCS.

Thanks again for your time and effort, I really appreciate it.

Mike,

I have just sat at my PC to try VAICOM voice training and I do get a confidence level shown in the VA log. The steps I have taken are:

1. run VA as administrator (I do this using Windows permissions on the shortcut, not the VA option)

2. opened the VAICOM configuration panel

3. Selected the editor tab

4. Clicked on the microphone symbol which then gets a yellow border - at this point the Microsoft speech recognition window appears but I do not do anything with this

5. Held down my PTT button and spoken a phrase - at this point I have either got a recognised but rejected message (with confidence level) or a recognised with confidence level - it does nothing if I do not hold my PTT button down while speaking the command

I have attached screenshots of these so you can see where yours differs

The speech engine does get better with repetition

Actually, I think you should jump into DCS and try. I've never paid attention to those confidence levels as I haven't read the VA manual anyway, shame on me... So I can just guess what they really mean.

But starting cold and dark and try to get radios tuned, connecting and disconnecting ground power, wheel chocks, rearm/refuel will easily make you see that you're on the right track, and totally boost YOUR confidence!

To say things the correct way, refer to the VAICOM manual and the keywords editor in the control panel.

When I started this, or rather got into it 6 months ago, it was a lot of trial and error at first, until I found my workflow. I trained MSSR, found a command like "connect ground power". Tested, didn't work

Ground was the issue at the time. Alt-tab to VCP control panel. Added alias to "external power". And if I found something that was really hard. Clicked the "orange" mic. Added word/phrase to dictionary with speech. Closed MSSR, tested in VAICOM which will really tell you if it works or not. Alt-tab back to DCS, and made sure it worked. I then didn't know how important it was to train the MSSR, and didn't know it was best to do it lots of times. That's why I ended up with adding all words and phrases, which I believe today, is not necessary if one run through the speech engine more. And one should be okay, with just adding names of airfields/farps etc like Greyman said. And troublesome words like Hollywood says in the video.

Microsoft Speech should NOT be running while using VA. It seems you do if I read you correctly. To make sure it's off. Close and start VA, it will warn you and ask to close it for you. Make sure to answer yes.

Another tip I learned today. Every time you change microphone, your in danger of ruining your MS Speech training, so it's recommended to have a separate speech profile in MS Speech for each microphone.

Hope this will help!

One silly thought as I have made this mistake before - if you are in a multi-radio aircraft are you PTTing on the radio you have tuned

Hi,

I've just been in DCS and had a fly around, and apart from a few airports it seems to recognise most commands so something is clearly working. I think my confusion comes from the VA log not showing the confidence levels... I've re-read the manual and I'm getting the same as you, but unless I'm reading the manual incorrectly, that's not what we should be getting!! (The manual seems to state that in training mode PTT is disabled, the MSSR should be enabled, and that doing this IS training the MSSR....).

On the plus side, I do have a few more weeks of lockdown to get my head around it and get the dictionary to properly understand me!

Interstingly 'ground' seems to be an issue for me too, along with almost everythig starting with a 'P'!

Thanks again so much for the time you've spent looking for me, hopefully when I get my s@*t together I'll see you in MP and say thanks in person as it were.

This is still not giving me the result I expect...

When I push my PTT button the log shows PTT disabled during training mode. I still get this pop-up from MSSR every time I speak, and I still never get a confidence level. The only way I can get a confidence level is to take it out of training mode, turn off speech recognition and use PTT as if I was in the sim. This then gives me a confidence level along with 'no AWACS, or JTAC message, but this is not training the speech recognition, it's just trying to interpret the command I give it and inject it into the sim, which isn't running. I'm starting to think this is to do with how MSSR and VaicomPro are interacting - something is clearly not configured correctly, as I cannot replicate what I see in the video tutorials or read in the manual.

Thanks for trying, I'm going to uninstall VA, Vaicom etc and start again. If that doesn't work then I will be doing the entire library of commands manually through MSSR.

Is it too early for beer yet?!! :D

Thanks for trying, I'm going to uninstall VA, Vaicom etc and start again. If that doesn't work then I will be doing the entire library of commands manually through MSSR.

Is it too early for beer yet?!! :D

Never too early/late for beer!

Anyway. I think it's behaving correctly, as you do disable the TXs when you click the mic icon in VCP control panel.

Now, I don't remember if the commands you say then are displayed in Voice Attack log. I don't thinks so, and this is what made me believe that I actually trained MSSR.

Pressing the mic icon in VCP control panel is the only time VCP interacts with MSSR. That's what you ment right? Apart from that it doesn't. So when you click the icon again, it's actually activated both in VA and MSSR. That might lead to strange behavior. I've had MSSR understand me completely, but VA says not. So just don't do that!
