rassy7 Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Hi All, Despite several attempts, I haven't been able to learn enough of this language to use script effectively to do what I want to do in missions. I have a decent machine (specs in sig FWIW), but I am still running into frame rate issues. I don't know a ton about what impacts frame rate, but I believe I read somewhere that the number of events and triggers in the game does and I know the number of aircraft in a mission does as well (even if I can't see them). I created this mission (attached) as a kind of proof of concept to randomize MiG-15's launching from different bases for me, patrolling in an F-86 to intercept and engage. I wanted to have simulated dogfights all over so there is a ton of F-86 traffic as well. End result is yes, it works, but it quickly boggs down my system to a non-playable level. Questions: 1) Is there a way to use some kind of spawn/respawn script to eliminate the mass of triggers? 2) Do I have any hope of creating a sky filled with a/c without destroying the playability of a mission? 3) Does anyone know of another mission out there similar to this one I could try. I'm really just trying to get better at A2A in the F-86 and tried to build this to give me several hours of practicing finding MiG's and dogfighting with them. feefifofum Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 (edited) Are you specifically looking to have them go through the full taxi/takeoff sequence or would an air start from a randomized position be sufficient? If you're fine with a random starting location within an established area there's a very simple MiST solution that only requires two triggers and a zone: First, create your target group. Then, create a trigger zone in the size of the area you'd like to search. Trigger 1 Type: ONCE type, NO EVENT Conditions: None Triggered Actions: DO SCRIPT FILE (mist_4_3_74.lua) download MiST here, right click and save link as Trigger 2 Type: CONTINUOUS ACTION, NO EVENT Conditions: None Triggered Actions: DO SCRIPT and paste the following into the script container: if not Group.getByName('MiG15') then mist.respawnInZone('MiG15', 'myZone', true) end As you shoot down the MiG, it should respawn in a random position within the zone you've defined. rassy7 Posted December 26, 2017 Author Posted December 26, 2017 That's a good question. At first, I thought it wouldn't make a difference (other than running the risk of having a MiG spawn on my tail), but in practice, a few times, I found myself after a dogfight over or near an enemy airdrome and caught a couple on the ground. That was more fun than I anticipated and helped me iron out strafing, so ideally it would include the full taxi, but not a deal-breaker if there is a script that can make this work without that. Also, I don't care if they deactivate after landing, but I couldn't figure out how to make that happen without a bunch more triggers and events. I just saw the rest of your post. My phone was having some trouble. I'll try this out tomorrow. Thanks for your help! I can't believe I'm considering trying to learn enough of knee of these languages to be dangerous again, but I remembered reading a lot about MIST and Moose. Assuming I would have to learn one or the other, or at least the two in succession, which would you start with? I'm kind of a teach a man HOW to fish guy so this is most beneficial if I can come to understand WHY and HOW these scripts are working. They look incredible though. I'm very excited. Thanks again! feefifofum Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 For my .02: There are a lot of 'quick and dirty' solutions in MiST like the one I posted. If you have a strong knowledge of the scripting engine that DCS uses, you can also get pretty involved but it's very much a ground-up approach for a lot of things. MOOSE has a lot more flexibility built right into the framework, but I would say it requires a significant time investment to get anywhere with anything more complex. Sven AKA FlightControl has made a huge effort to make tutorial videos and example missions, but it can still be a little intimidating to a first time user. The MOOSE community is second to none in terms of responsiveness, though, and the guys there are very happy to help new folks out...even if you get a little grumpy when you learn you need to go a lot deeper down the rabbit hole than you thought you did. If you have a programming background, or a lot of time and patience, I'd say hop into MOOSE. If you're just looking for very simple, basic functions more directly tied into DCS, MiST is probably a good place to start. There is a wiki that has lots of little one-offs like the one I posted. I've messed are here and there with MIST before, but never really taken it the distance in a mission. I'll take a look at each and see what feels best for my purposes. Most of what I've done has been for website development: HTML5, ActionScript3 and some JavaScript, but it always feels new all over again. Thanks for the reply. rassy7 Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 Just wanted to close the loop here. I decided to go the route of MOOSE, because it was an unknown and MIST was known and known to me a difficult. Anyway, I started with something simple that had most of the work already done: RAT. Not only did the Random Air Traffic easily solve this particular problem 100%, it's so easy to use, pretty much all my missions have some form of AI traffic now. Couple links for anyone else who might bump into a similar issue: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=194247&highlight=SetDeparture&page=7 http://flightcontrol-master.github.io/MOOSE/Documentation/Rat.html##(RAT).SetFL MOOSE was a great suggestion.
