It's still up in the air about exactly what features it will have. They've talked about it, afaik, along with most other stuff. Issue is, that sort of tech doesn't really exist in a usable format right now. It will be a while before you start seeing that stuff.

As for being overloaded, yeah, depending on the game in question (DCS is more demanding than say... any of the "made for VR" titles) and your rig. It's not intended for people with low-to-mid range equipment. That would be the Oculus and Vive's job. These guys are going for the ultra high end of the spectrum.

New GPUs launch regularly. 4k was "too much" when it first launched, but is now nothing major.

If you don't push the boundaries, they will never move.

Even without the ability of the GPU to generate true 4k, it could be worth it for reduction of screen door effect and the wider FOV until GPUs catch up.

This is a topic that is discussed on a regular basis.

To cut through the clutter the bottom line is that most of us are running the rift with a PD of 1.5 or greater which is rendering 5-7million pixels. The native resolution of the Pimax will be less than that meaning that if you are getting 45 FPS now, you'll get it when you put on your Pimax.
