Robin_Hood Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Hi all, I am wondering whate are everybody's parameters for the overhead break. With the new flight model, it seems that the aircraft loses a lot of energy at idle throttle and I have to add power in the middle of the break to keep some airspeed. I hava seen various parameters over the year, but currently none work for me (and airbrakes are especially no-no). I wonder if people have thoughts on the subject. 2nd French Fighter Squadron
jojo Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) What is your bank angle for the break ? Try 350kt, 60° bank angle, idle + airbrakes, retract at 200kt. Extend landing gear in downwind. Winterz Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I do it like Jojo said, retracting airbrakes at 220kts. Works like a charm.
Robin_Hood Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) I used to do 350 Kts, Idle, 60°, no airbrakes, and now I have to add power halfway through the turn. I would be surprised if adding airbrakes improves things, but I'll try. What airspeed do you expect at the end of the turn ? EDIT: Heres what happens when I try this (Track and Tacview attached) ; 60°, idle, airbrake out, 180° level turn, airbrake in at 200-220 kts. I run out of energy before the end of the turn. Do you guys make a level or descending turn ?M2KC Overhead break.zip Edited January 10, 2018 by Robin_Hood 2nd French Fighter Squadron
Nealius Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 1500' AGL, 350kts, ~3G level turn at idle, add power appropriately to keep around 200-220kts. I don't use speedbrakes until my main gear is on the runway.

Do you guys make a level or descending turn ? Im not at home so I cant see the track/tacview, but you want to start your break idle+airbrakes/60° till 220kts. At this moment, retract airbrakes and keep the speed using throttle.
