Whuping Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 So I recently got the Rift, well more like recently been using Rift for DCS, and I am encountering the difficulty of seeing targets. With desktop (non-vr) I'm able to spot targets at minimum 10 nautical miles easily. With VR that visual acquisition drastically drops to 2 nautical miles MAX. 0.5 nautical miles when viewing for planes in the weeds. I've tried doing the options people have been suggesting (SUPERSAMPLING - INCREASE MSAA/AA - WIDEN YOUR EYES - etc). Never got it to work or I'm not understanding how to get it to work. I have a GTX 1060 6gb. I've tried the DSR option, but I didn't notice any difference or didn't understand how it worked. Probably did it wrong. But anyways to my knowledge, I somewhat improved the visuals of the game with a minimal percentage of dankness, but still suffer in easily acquiring targets (Via ingame options). I know about the screen door - I mean, I can see it. But that itself isn't a problem. I'm wondering how you VR simmers are seeing anything let alone engaging anything past 2 nautical miles. I messed around with Pixel Density (Currently mine is 1.5). But that didn't really improve anything. I was reading comments like a gullible child reading advertisements of VR peeps seeing things 8 nautical miles out with these settings. Never worked. Or probably did it wrong. (To also note I got a pretty decent PC setup. Lag and all of that sort is not affecting my visual Asian eyes capabilities. i7 7700, 16gb Ram. No FPS loss either just really having trouble spotting things.) Tips? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Dying Embers can still start a fire" -Western Han Dynasty
SilentWarrior Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Some patches ago you could actually see things quite far in VR. I was able to see AMRAMMs being fired at almost their max range by seeing 1 dot from the F15 and 1 dot from the AMRAMM and guessing by no RWR response that it was an amramm. I was also able to see Viggens out to sea when I was in the Mig21 flying above the mountains near Sukumi. Also dots. But it seems like they messed with that now and I cant see shit anymore. Tbh it was quite OP but it even out eventually because of the dificulty seeing things, even close ones, against ground background. They should have let that in to balance things out for us VR players. Good luck as I am on the same boat as you. lemoen Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Use pixel density of 1.0 for maximum visibility. Your framerate will be better too. Setting this higher can cause the something that should display as 1 dark pixel to instead be displayed as 1 slightly darker pixel. Seriously. Set the PD higher if you want to be able to read the dials a bit easier but for seeing things far away leave it on 1
Mr_sukebe Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 OP> You're not alone. I can't bring myself to fly on a monitor, but whilst I might spot a "dot", I can't identify an aircraft until I'm virtually on top of it. ED have stated in their roadmap for 2018, that they intend to improve spotting for VR. I did suggest the idea of a "VR friendly" server (i.e. labelled as one), with some version of labels added, but was rather shot down. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
