dodger42 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Ok this is a little old and some would have seen it, but still, a very nice video of OS switching, possible with a product called 'parallels'. Run Windows, OSX, Linux at the same time on one box, but much sweeter than VMWare. Has anybody used it? 1 . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
EscCtrl Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Any point? I see OSX as backward windows - the cross in the right hand corner is in the left hand one etc :P Until most media runs linux properly without any effort (i.e. having to do something other then click install) i'm not that interested - fun for anyone with the time i guess As much as a lot of people hate windows it works most of the time and nothing else seems to do better or if it does it doesn't support the stuff i want. P.S. "I'll Nerd you so hard it'll MHz" <<< terrible joke :P
gundelgauk Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 These virtualization environments are mainly interesting for companies who want to run multiple virtual servers on a single host platform. Modern processors implement mechanisms that facilitate this process without having to use vmware and such. This also greatly enhances performance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtualization Other than for testing stuff or for the coolness factor I don't really see any benefit in this for us end users. Well except maybe it can eliminate the need for dual boot if you don't want to use Vista but sometimes need it for games that don't run on linux or something like that. ;)
Anytime Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 It's great!! I use it to run windows apps on Mac OS X, it basically hides the windows desktop and runs the app on on mac os desktop (Coherance mode). Very very quick, actually boots faster that a regular installation. You can also let it use your dual boot partition and boot out to play lockon etc with the one installation. Note: Bill's vista licence only lets you run the ultimate version on virtual machines and it's very resource hungry, I'd stick with xp or win2k. OMG are you serious? How on earth is that justified? Actions like this are precisely why I am typing this from a Fedora laptop. Does M$ limit the use of 'non ultimate' Vista edition within virtual hosts somehow or is only by the EULA? The reason I would use an OS Switch is I am gradually moving all functionality to linux and possibly OSX later. Initially some tasks are tougher on Linux simply because I don't know which app is good for achieving the task. I have to try Lockon within Cedega... that would be the end of Windows for me :) . . .
