OCULUS PROBLEMS

Hello

I'm new to DCS and also VR.

I purchased an Oculus Touch on the basis of the You tube videos I see online, and only have DCS in mind for its use.

Unfortunately I have just discovered that Oculus will no longer work with my OMEN 15 ce 062TX laptop.

Oculus support didnt seem to want to tell me why - I now see this is common based on various threads. I also have only just become aware I am not the only one who is suffering from:

Black outs

Blinking

Static screens

Left green eye

Right Red eye

blinding flashes occasionally as well!

I am a veteran of the Sally corner having flown it over 65 times in the F15C Red Flag Campaign

BUT only to waypoint 4 or 6 having only ever completed 4 missions of 10 in the series.

Perhaps a bucket list item one day to fly the Red Flag Campaign!

I wish someone from the DCS had made a Youtube on the special needs of the Oculus and the fact that it pronounces your Laptop VR ready but that doesn't actually mean an Oculus headset will work.

If any gurus have a fix to my problem please step forward!!

If its not fixable I have an Oculus for sale in Australia I'll be going Mixed Reality headset-

unless they are also as troubled as OCULUS.

Other than Surface Book, I don't know if any laptop will *not* run Rift. It'll just run horribly slow. (Surface Book can't run it because of the tablet/NVidia/Control issue).

I don't know about the red/green/flashing, but I did have my Rift blank out with the Orange LED. What I did to fix it was a) use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. I also added the ASMEDIA USB card (which you can't do) later on. But the former was enough for me to get going.

Also, DCS does not support the Touch controllers as of yet. I don't know if it's a roadmap item or not, but I do believe ED/DCS is working to support for it.

Thanks for the reply

I saw a post which countered the adapter change to say it doesn't work.

Yeah the green thing was pretty funny I was so determined to finish a mission I flew it with my left eye closed looked okay but alas I couldn't keep it up until the end.

I did get a MIG 29 with only one eye open in the dark!

I record and keep the failures with TACVIEW have quite a collection now.

Laptop specs easily passes Oculus compatibility download!

OCULUS PROBLEMS

(Edit:) I reread your post and i guess you already answered my question, it's a mystery why oculus doesn't work on that laptop. I also googled it and seems that many people find that the minidp adapter helps.

Well interesting turn of events and many thanks to Hansangb

I went out and bought a adapter Display port to HDMI this arvo. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Plugged it in no joy the Oculus program recognised the headset but then in setup would not continue as it didn't recognise the HDMI port. Running without a setup , it was back to blinking etc in Oculus Home as per before.

I did however remember I had a second adapter laying around which is USB-C to VGA & HDMI,

Well long story short I've finished Mission 5! well almost Dodge or Uzi flights caught a cropper and the whole show went pair shaped - apparently

I do have all the settings in game zeroed to low - so the quality was pretty ordinary and it is flown at night time perhaps I might even try to increase those setting again!

The Omen has three outputs from its video card - Compact - Display Port, full HDMI and USB-C

Its early days but if it works I'll pass it back to Oculus Support and hope they start to tell people about this and save them lots of anxiety...

Is there a way to get the DP to work through Nvidia?

Anyway I'm over the moon - thanks for the help and interest (Freebird23)

I will update again if it remains fixed or if it suddenly fails.

However the Oculus is far from out of the woods..................

Yup, DisplayPort has a few versions and MiniDP can be finicky. Not all adapters are Active adapters, and some are incapable of carrying audio along with Video. Something that will trip up Rift. Glad the USB-C adapter worked for you!
