Raven11 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) Hello all - relative DCS noob here and looking into moving from 1.5.8 release to 2.5 open beta. I've done some research and have a few questions - hoping one of you might be able to enlighten a new guy: a) Is this a wise move or best to wait until 2.5 stable release comes out? b) If a wise move what is the best way to do so: 1) via the instructions on this page: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 2) via the GUI updater: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 3) via downloading the free installer for 2.5 http://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ c) would people recommend keeping the 1.5.8 release but also installing 2.5 open beta in another location. Thanks in advance. R11 Edited January 31, 2018 by Raven11
dburne Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 There will not be a 2.5 Alpha, only Open Beta and Stable Release. Stable will come in a week or two. The Open Beta installer is supposed to be available some time later today, I would just wait and grab that if you want to run the Beta branch. Raven11 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Thanks - corrected on 2.5 stable vs. alpha.
QuiGon Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 a) Totally up to you. There is nothing really wrong with either option. b) If you want to keep the Stable Release I would recommend to 3) wait till the free installer is available, otherwise I would recommend to 1) update as instructed c) No, 1.5.8 serves no purpose anymore Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
