rge75 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Just tried mission 5 and I think the location of the downed Huey should be reconsidered. Yes, actually it's possible to land in the forest, but there's no gap for errors. It's extremely tight. It might be too difficult for many pilots IMO. Sharkku Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) **May contain mild spoilers** I agree. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed making that extremely challenging landing, but I definitely agree that it's too demanding for the general user-base, and should be altered. The problem though, is that it affects a few other missions later in the campaign as well. Edited February 3, 2018 by Sharkku
rge75 Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 Did you manage to land there with the 1st attempt? I still have problems to land in there. My 1st attempt was the best but I touched the tail somewhere when I almost managed to land. And the more you try, the worse it gets... Ah yes, if I'm right the downed Huey remains there in another mission? Well, they simply have to move it in all missions. They could move it a few hundred meters to the West. There would be some clearings. I'm facing East on that pic. The Huey is in the forest ahead. So just place it here at the shore. rge75 Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 or if you want to have it even more simple, move the objects and trigger zones to this location. That worked fine for me without having to adjust altitute or anything in the trigger. I did not play till the end yet though. Sharkku Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 No, I failed my first attempt due to asymmetrical lift caused by ground-effect acting on half the rotor-disk. I was trying to land next to the river, and the river bank was very steep and high. When I descended over the edge, the asymmetrical lift caused a pitch-up motion which was quickly counteracted by the pilot. However, the motion triggered a pilot-induced oscillation which resulted in loss of control and the main rotor striking a nearby tree. The crew survived, but the helicopter was a total loss. My second attempt was more successful. I descended in the same area, but made sure to stay above flat ground at all times.
rge75 Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 Ah, so you didn't try to land between the trees? That seemed pretty impossible to me. The big trees are no problem, but when you're descending, you simply can't really see the lower trees. I did not see a landing spot next to the river though. This must also be a very small spot to land on? My DCS videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJX2av4UE4xqWto3y8EZWMw [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sharkku Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Yes, it was very tight. I wonder if individual tree placement is randomly generated for each user, or if everybody has the exact same?
rge75 Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 I don't think it's random. At least for me, it looks the same all the time in the LZ. My DCS videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJX2av4UE4xqWto3y8EZWMw [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ryder35 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Would reducing trees to 0 work and would it be considered cheating? ;)
Ramsay Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Would reducing trees to 0 work and would it be considered cheating? ;) No, it wouldn't work, you end up with invisible trees (or a short draw distance), so can see the crash site BUT, AFAIK the trees are still collidable (stops MP cheating), so you'd crash when trying to land. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
