Hello,

Recently i bought the Oculus Rift CV and tried it with DCS World 2.5

Now i prefer VR over my trackIR but the framerates are max 45 fps with the Oculus.

Therefore i am thinking about upgrading my pc.

I have a 2600K cpu overclocked to 4.4, 16Gb of DDR2 memory and an Asus 1080ti 11Gb graphic card.

I have the 8600K cpu in mind with the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero motherboard and the Corsair 16 GB DDR4-3600 Vengeance RGB, XMP 2.0 Kit.

This upgrade will cost me about 937 euro / 1.148,67 US dollar.

I can afford it, but i dont know if upgrade will be worth it.

Will it be a "huge" difference qua performance and VR-immersion or will it

be a small step?

I don't get more than 45 FPS in 2.5 although it seems smoother and you can ramp up the settings. I don't regret my rig for a second though and if you can budget for an upgrade I would not hesitate to recommend it as it will be a huge step up from the old sandybridge and I notice in a big difference in DDR4 to DDR3 :)

Happy shopping;)

YOur GPU usage now will let you guess how much more is in the bag.

With a 8600k at 5G or more, you can feed the Ti so it runs at 99% load.

That would be the extra speed you can gain.

The platform itself has many advantages, you have to decide if that is worth it alone, depending on what to expect from the possible fps gain from above.

I suggest searching for benchmarks. I don't believe it would be worth it, but I also don't play around with that amount of money. Current i5's/i7's are only about 20% faster than the legendary i7-2600K, but I don't know if that translates to 20% more peformance in games or less. Probably adds up to little less.

Read my DCS 2.5 Optimisation Guide (version 2.5.4):

Overclock the 2600K higher as you can should be your first move. And i agree with BitMaster.

Thanks for the information.

I've just monitored the GPU usage with AIDA64.

The usage was about 50% with a bit ups and downs.

The fps was from 30 till 45.

(done in a quick mission, summer / clear)

Is it right to say, if i upgrade to an 8600K and use the full potential of the GPU,

the framerate will be between 60 and 90?

you can safely assume that any ordinary 5G-8600k will kick your GPU's behind towards 100% usage, granted that you supply 16GB and SSD(s).

This is a safe shot pal !

I get circa 75 fps minimum with my 1080Ti and 8700k @ 5-5.2G ( the 5.2G is nice, 5G is still plenty imho ).

Max fps is around 90 +/- a few.

That is with "EVERYTHING" maxed out, Def. Shaders + 8xMSAA, visibility extreme, 100% all, plain everything maxed out, ( 1024 single frame for MFD's, thats not on "every" ).

Basically I wanted to see how it crawls, but hey, it gave me 75+, very solid fps, fluent,..and oh boy, those colours with DS look great, 8xMSAA takes away any shimmer and glitter, as far as you look with millions of trees and houses. 4xMSAA still had shimmer. SO I tried 8x and thought ohh this aint gonna work, but it did, and pretty good.

VRAM was 10.5GB btw, when I checked the graph. Ka-50 FreeFlight, always same mission, always Route AP.

( RAM goes through the roof, 16GB are way exceeded, due to the leak. I dont think you can do that if you have less RAM now with the bug, dunno, YMMV atm ).
