Hmm.. you say it works for everyone else, but do a search and you’ll find that’s not true.

I believe in real life, the Viggen can’t fire single rockets.

Some clarification from Heatblur would be useful here.

It can't fire single rockets, neither in real life nor ingame.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

That’s what I thought, so why are people here claiming that it works for them?

Because it really works - see screenshot:-)

Bit of background here:

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=181816

tl;dr

- IRL Viggen has this capability, but it's dependent on the rocket pod mounted rather then the switch in cockpit. It was used for training pods (with live missiles however)

- the GRUPP/ENKEL switch DOESN'T have this function IRL, this is workaround implemented by HB to simulate the training pods

i do it and it does work, it fires 4 missiles at a time allowing about 6 separate shopts, enkel is single in anti ship and single salvo in rocket mode, I have pics just done now to prove but cant upload at moment

as above earnil pic shows 4 rockets

Posted

for factual reference well I'm sure it is :) the viggen originally in real life was not able to fire single/salvos of 4 rockets BUT the training pods had single fire, and so it was thought that after a while some of the in field viggens had this as well, either from factory or field mods from engineers

Ok, I've worked it out. I was using the wrong switch!

I was using the left hand series/single one, whereas I should have been using the right hand one!

Glad we got that sorted out!

lol, we did keep saying enkel !at least you got it

Got there in the end!

Because I am using the English cockpit, I assumed that enkel meant single, and there are 2 single labels! That's my excuse, anyway!

To be honest, I don't fully understand that panel. Also, there is no mention of this single/group choice in the rocket section of the draft main manual, or Chuck's guide.

I'm sure if you do the anti-ship training mission, you need to use that switch then, its a while since I did training missions, the manual I believe is more of a get you going sort of thing at the moment, wait till you do bk-90s!

The functionality is bit confusing but this is what I understand:

SERIE / IMPULS

- with antiship missiles SERIE launches all missiles, IMPULS one by one.

- with ARAK, it selects between normal (NORM) and long range (LA) mode

GRUPP / ENKEL

- with antiship missiles - this tells the missile whether you're attacking group of ships or a single ship. Not sure if and how this is modeled in DCS

- with ARAK - selects between firing all missiles (GRUPP) and one by one (ENKEL)

The serie / implus switch would be much more logical choice for selecting whether you want to fire ARAK one by one or all, but since it's already taken by normal / long range mode, I guess HB thought the other switch is next best thing.

This is very confusing, but I think you are almost right from what I can work out.

I think what you said about SERIE/IMPULS is correct, but according to Chuck's guide, the VALB/STD (or GRUPP/ENKEL) switch should be set to VALB for pilot inputted data or STD if you want a preset profile for the anti-ship missile.

It is particularly confusing here with the labelling as there are 4 labels for 2 switches, and which is relevant depends on what weapon is being used as per the bottom row below the switches.

There are 4 labels for the switches, i.e. 1a) NORM/AL 1b) SERIE/IMP 2a) GRUPP/ENKEL and 2b) VALB/STD.

1a) is for Guns/Rockets - Normal (NORM) and Long Range (LA)

1b) is for Anti-ship (RB-04 and RB-15) and BK90 - launches all (SERIE) and launches one (IMPULS)

2a) is for rockets - group fire (GRUPP) or single fire (ENKEL)

2b) is for anti-ship and BK 90 - pilot inputted data (VALB) and preset profile (STD).

That's the best I can work out, but I may be completely wrong!

Nobody got any comments on the above for accuracy?

There was no question regarding accuracy, was it?

You mean long mode compared to regular (guns and rockets)? It is not accurate enough to hit a specific vehicle. But accurate enough for a building or a group of static targets, like an enemy camp.

The manual describes the switches in detail. If you miss something in Chucks guide, please take a look into the manual. Many questions are answered there :)

Haha! I meant the accuracy of my summary, not the weapons!

Talking of the manual, I can't see any detailed description of these switches. The quote below this is all I can see, and that just adds to the confusion as it is different to what we have all experienced as posted in this thread in some cases.

P 275 -

'8. Weapon release mode switch

»» Sets either SERIE (series) or IMPULS (single) release of the RB 04 and RB 15 or sight

calculation for the rockets for normal mode (NORM) long range mode (LA).

9. Targeting mode selector / weapon preparation (MÅLVAL/ PREP)

»» Changes the RB 04 radar to focus on either single or grouped targets. RB-15 or BK 90

settings are toggled between standard setting values and custom entered values'.

Really glad you’re not confused! However, advice in guide and manual content are at odds.

It would be nice to have consistency.
