Is the UH-1 Huey the poor relative!

Recommended Posts

The UH-1 Huey is my favorite craft in the DCS sim and was very popular when it first appeared. However, I can't but think the gloss is wearing thin...

There is an engine bug that takes the engine out after a few minutes flight unless you are ultra careful. We are still awaiting a fix.

In the Normandy Map menu 'Instant Action' there are no training or free flight options as their are for other aircraft. I think the MI8 helo suffers the same fate too!

I have also noticed that many on-line missions in multiplayer are not including the Huey as a flight option any longer; this is just too bad :(

I hope some of these issues can be resolved... perhaps it is a Belsimtek problem rather than ED...? I must admit I am not a frequent user as some are... so perhaps I am missing something here although I do appreciate that ED have done a splended job of late bringing us beta 2.5 ^

Well to be honest even with the current engine modelling the Huey is very flyable once you know what your doing.

Training missions for anything in 2.5 are pretty much non existent, 1.5.x has lots of training for all sorts of mods.

If your keen on helicopters the others all bring something different and special, which I find builds on each of the others.

Of course this is only my personal view but it is how I find them. I can only recommend flight theory books and read the manuals.

YMMV. :D

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

A quick search would have let you see that there are about 50 pages discussing this issue, and that the 'bug' you're complaining about is a direct result of the fact that Belsimtek are still adding requested features to the module.

Users had complained about the lack of over temp damage, so Belsimtek implemented it.

There are 2 threads discussing the implementation, one of which has a request for feedback from users by Belsimtek = see https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=196588&page=33

As a result of the feedback, changes are being made...

Team developed solution which will include tune regarding torque and temperature. As soon as programmers will implement it it will go for patch.

Also task was created for fixing gauge green zone.

Cheers.

You may have developed bad habits with the old engine model which allowed you to essentially push the engine beyond it's real world limits with no effect or failure.

From limited experience in an R44 you must be mindful that there are very defined limitations to engine and transmission systems well the whole aircraft for that matter. :D

So perhaps after the modeling has been improved/updated you could get to learn these and develop your skills, you might even find simming more rewarding when you do. :)

However do try one of the other helicopters perhaps either the Mi-8 or the Gazelle both of which I find rewarding.

Sorry, but that is simply not true!

In my 2.5 modules there are:

15 A10

9 Viggen

5 Bf 109

14 Flaming Cliffs

10 F-5E

7 Black Shark

10 Mustang

4 Spitfire

15 Su-25.

That list is the same as the 1.5 one pretty much!

There are a pitiful 2 Huey training missions, and they are very basic startup and weapons. Bearing in mind how totally different flying a heli as compared to a plane, I feel that the Huey needs a fairly comprehensive set of training missions, including some basic flight manoeuvres and techniques.

Hey IJammer,

Over at the 99th we always have UH1 slots. There is significant tasking for the rotary wing assets in the missions. We like to fly in lifts, so its the place to be if you like to fly UH1 formations.

Well there you go I'm sure the wern't there in 2.

I gave up on 2 and made my own missions or MP, besides rotary wing aircraft are easy you just need to not hit anything. :P :megalol:

Correct, they weren’t in 2.x versions prior to 2.5 as there was no Caucasus map!

Well there you go I see that now that I have finally just this morning got windows and DCS working again after windows update mid last month.

Although missions per se probably wont help the OP too much he just needs to do some practice and and keep an eye the instruments and maybe a tad of rotary flight theory. Controls also help a lot.

Once I get the the rest of DCS and Teamspeak going I'd be happy to help if I can, but first I need a rotary wing fix. :D :helpsmilie::D

I disagree. Missions is the wrong word to describe the training ones. They are lessons with an instructor, and when used together with manuals, they are invaluable when learning a new aircraft.

However, in the case of the Huey, they are pretty useless and very limited.

Now, we are back to my original point!

Which point is that one?

I still think teamspeak or something similar a flight manual or at least a theory book and jump on to a MP server with someone experienced, SIX or Gizzy over at 229th come to mind.

The basic issue the OP has is inexperience in engine (flight) management and that is not a dig at the OP. Even in the Huey 's current iteration it's still very flyable without destroying the engine. :)

This is probably the best value for money rotary wing theory book available.

Although there are countless other great web sites out there as well as stuff that actually cost you money,.. :D
