Nightwolf Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I'm probably not alone in this, but I don't really enjoy the AI in DCS  The only place where I can fight worthy opponents is with my friends in multiplayer servers. Sure, I can do this in the 104th or Dynamic Caucasus, but sometimes I just want some place to relax and play some BVR (Or I can't connect to the popular servers due to the memory leak ;) ). Open Conflict was exactly this for me, but ever since it went down, the best option has been the 104th. I don't really know how to accurately express what I'm trying to say. Basically, Open Conflict, I miss you, and I'm tired of the "realism" servers (which my friends won't ever go on) with objectives just to get some fighting in. DCS could really use a new casual PvP server. Doesn't need fancy scripts or tons of objectives necessarily (Although CAS and helo objectives would be great too), just something super simple, almost like Just Dogfight, but with BVR. An added bonus would be that with less scripts running, it could (maybe) be easier to connect to for people with less powerful machines. Obviously I'm only thinking about A2A here, I don't have a ton of experience ground pounding, and none with helos. Any server created like this would definitely get frequent visits from me and probably my friends too. I understand how much work developing missions and hosting DCS servers is, so it's completely understandable that no one has stepped into Mirknir's place. I'm just saying that I and probably a lot of other people would really appreciate a simple, no-pressure environment to just lay back and fly some jets, without having to worry about protecting airfields or trying to protect CAS jets in enemy territory. GGTharos Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 You always have the option of hosting your own. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
VZ_342 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 How does one “host their own”? Mainly I want to know if I host a drop-in/free for all server, does it need to be a dedicated computer, or can I still fly while hosting? (I know nothing about servers etc).

*Rage* Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 The 51st server is cirrently hosting a stripped down A2A mission based on the SATAL competition. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
cosmicdoubloon Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 (edited) Hi Nightwolf. I used to be one of the Admins on Open Conflict and believe me, we all miss it too. No server has really achieved that blend of Safe PVE practice, and dangerous PVE/PVP combat of the conflict zone in the same way OC did. Most servers go to the extreme of one of theses, and pick either pure PVE practice (Through The Inferno and F99th come to mind), or super real PVP/E (blue flag, 104th etc). I still regularly chat to Mirknir about reviving OC and without going into detail he's pretty hesitant to come back, but not completely written the idea off. Get as many of your friends to pop a message on the original Open Conflict thread about how much you'd love it to come back and it will help, I promise you! For the time being I'd recommend for you the 51st server, or Dynamic Caucasus. Both have good fighting opportunities without being 'super' realistic a la blueflag. Nightwolf Posted March 1, 2018 Author Posted March 1, 2018 You always have the option of hosting your own. I wish I could :( Being a full time student I have neither the time nor the resources to do so (nor the hardware). I’ll have to try the 51st, haven’t seen it yet somehow. As for Mirknir, like I said I completely understand why he stopped hosting. He made his decision and I don’t really want to change it. "Fighter pilots have ice in their veins. deyneko Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I wish I could Being a full time student I have neither the time nor the resources to do so (nor the hardware). There another alternative. You can play as an operator of GCI by using tactical map. It will not substitute flights, but a lot of people really like it. So you can try. And believe me - it is not easy. Here an example (Time to time you will hear a GCI's operator voice): Why the operator needed? Because integrated "automatic" AWACS sometimes is annoying or useless. Or/and in Korea and Vietnam war it wasn't like this. Additionally, it will be much more interesting. I create a group for "busy people" and I plan that some of us will help others as the GCI operator. It can be on a rotational basis or voluntary basis. If you want to join: https://discord.gg/m7yqsHD We are Virtual Pilots, a growing International Squad of pilots, we fly Allies in WWII and Red Force in Korea and Modern combat. We are recruiting like minded people of all Nationalities and skill levels. Visit our website: VIRTUAL-PILOTS.COM
Nightwolf Posted March 3, 2018 Author Posted March 3, 2018 I would try gci, but a. that requires combine arms which I don’t have, and b. I’m talking about servers that are casual, where people don’t need to get on srs or teamspeak for gci. Also, I haven’t been able to find the 51st server. I tried direct connect on the ip from the website and it said server offline, so... "Fighter pilots have ice in their veins. They don't have emotions. They think, anticipate.
