Hi, I have Gimp 2.822, Paint.net and Corel PaintShop Pro 7 (purchased version) but have a couple challenges:

First PSP7 does not recognize .dds files. I've searched Google for a couple days but haven't found any useful info on plugins etc. (If I convert the .dds to .bmp, it will open it, but of course without layers.) PSP7 has been set as the default app for .dds files, but it doesn't recognize them.

Both Gimp and Paint.net will open .dds files, but only show one layer (i.e., the complete image.)

I've tried SU-25 and -25T, F-15C, A-10A and C, L-39, F-5E, and F-86...none show layers.

dds format is for the final images, for direct use by the simulator ... for designing liveries you have to use the photoshop templates for each aircraft ... you can download them here:

Not sure if i understand exactly what you mean, but .DDS are flattenened file format, it doesn't support/containt layers, just 1 layer/background and Alpha Channels.
