Im gonna upgrade my old PC with P4C-2.6, VGA ATI 9550 AGP to a new one: AMD X2 3600+/3800+ AM2 and Nvidia 7300GT or ATI X850Pro PCI-Ex

I need some ingame screenshots of LO with frame rate is on from people who were using AMD X2 AM2 3600+/ 3800+ CPUs to compare fps with my old Pen 4 ?

Does AMD X2 3600+ with 256Kb x2 L2 cache will give me better fps than an Intel Pentium D 915 Presler 2.8Ghz with 4Mb cache ?

Upgrading to X2 3600+ from P4C is now a good idea for better FPS or i should wait for next few months to get Conroe E4300-E6300 ?

Thanks

Definitely better get a Core 2 Duo. Buying a Pentium4 is not a good idea if you wanna play LockOn ;)

Overclocking them is quite easy and they are well worth the upgrade if oyu ask me.

PC specs:

Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

Oh yeah, you're right... he wants to change from P4 to AMD. I missread that part. But yeah...either way, better get Core 2 Duo.

I think he meant he was buying an AMD x2 3800+. But your still going to be better off with a core 2 duo if its a possibility for you. Get a E6400 or a E6300 they'r dirt cheap and perform better for the price then AMD.

Yes, but 1.86GHZ for the E6300 is kind of not much (you need to pay for the extra cooling to pump it up @2.6Ghz if possible?)

Nowadays an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHZ Sock AM2 1MB Cache Boxed with cooler costs about the same!

BTW, I would also go for an Intel Core™2 at the moment ;) .

DELL Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 940 2,93 GHz @3 GHz, 8 MB cache | 8.192 MB 1.067 MHz Tri Channel DDR3

| 512 MB ATI® Radeon™ 4850 | 500 GB 7200 rpm Serial ATA | Samsung SM 2693 HM 25.5 " | HOTAS Cougar Thrustmaster |

Well that chart is actually old but if you look at the prices now you can get a E6400 for 5$ more then an AMD x2 5000+ and they perform nearly the same and I know for a fact you can push the E6400 to 3ghz with a 30$ fan wich will make it perform like a AMD 64 FX-62 stock.

But anyways he is planning on getting a 3800+ not a 5000+ and there are no Core 2 duo's in the 3800+'s price range but for 100$ more he can get a E6300 wich performs at least 15% better stock...but like I said "if its an option for you" .

how do you guys think of what BravoFoxtrot said about CPU ? Does AMD Dualcore X2 give everyone better fps than AMD single core CPU ?

I have a stock HP PC, added ATI X700 Vid.Card, SB Audigy ZS2 sound card, later I installed 1GB stick of RAM that gave me 2GB, then installed AMD 64X2 Dual Core 4200+, I'm seeing between 27fps - 130+ fps average 40's - 50's fps, before that I had 1GB RAM, AMD 64 3500+CPU, and only got between 12fps -30 fps, just in Lock On. So my upgrades for better fps was RAM and most of all, CPU.

And about VGA ??? Is ATI Radeon really better than Nvidia GF in LockOn ?

If you want high benchmark score go with NVidia, if you want the best LockOn experience, fps, speed, graphics, pretty much how you would think LockOn should/could look/play like, then go ATI, 256MB works but you wont go wrong with 512MB VGA, my next vid. card X1650 Pro, but newer ones are coming out soon so go to Guru3D and read the News dept before you buy your VGA, or processor,(you will be doing your self a favour) and if you got the $$$ read and compare because LockOn is CPU demanding and no matter what hardware you have,CPU and MOBO is the best combo to ENJOY LockOn the way it could be. Hope this helps you.

No, unless it works at higher clock, or you have too many programs running in a background.

Depends on what cards are you comparing. From the two you mentioned in the first post, ATI is better. But if you compare 8800GTS with X1950XTX then nVidia is better. :)

I've read this thread.

I've seen Lock On with both nVidia and ATI card and for me the difference in FSAA quality isn't worth buying slower card without DX10 support for 350$. Of course you may have different opinion about it, looking at your sig ;)
