A while back i made a post with multiple bug reports,

One of which had to do with the Mistral missile having quite bad performance.

 

This was the answer :

 

bigges issue is to gain actual data about the seakers and then it is a big question if this is applyale to the dcs code. I will talk with pat about it if it cn be updated and changed.

 

 

I've got a one more source that leads me to this conclusion, this is from the manufacturer :

Now it's probably best case scenario but the Mistral in DCS always acquires lock on a helicopter when distance is under 500m, it could only be one kilometer more, maybe less, but 500m is the minimum distance for the missile to engage. The Seeker is also currently rear aspect only but should be all aspect, that is a well known issue and was stated before.

 

Since it was a while back, I just wanted to know if there were any plans to improve the Mistral in DCS, it would be a very original and deadly machine :).

EDIT : Also as stated in my answer the damage caused by the Mistral is quite small, seems to be the same with MANPADS aswell.

It's not quite as bad as you think.

 

 

I got rear aspect locks/kills against AI Mi-8 and Mi-24 at 1.2 km a week ago in 2.5. I even had a hit at 420 m (and miss at 210 m)

 

It 'feels' similar to the DCS M2K Matra (think that gets a lock on a Mi-8 at ~2 km) but would need to test some more as it was in Mission 8 of the Mirage Campaign and at a 600 km/h closing speed.

 

I do agree detection/lock range could be improved unless there is info to the contrary, as the third generation AI SA-18 manpad fires on a AI Mi-8 at 2.8 km.

So it might have been improved, or the Mi-8 is hotter ^^, I remember on a multiplayer server having troubles locking stationnary Ka-50s from far away (more then 500ish meters). I have to say, i haven't done alot of testing lately, i'll try to make some and post the results here :).

Weapons adjustements mainly means rockets range and effect changed, at the moment.

 

As soon as we have enough datas and figure how to apply them in DCS the mistral missile will be corrected too.

So it might have been improved, or the Mi-8 is hotter.

The Mi-8 is probably a hotter/larger target, replacing Mi-8's with Ka-50's in my SA-18 manpad test - max AI engagement range was decreased (30%), Mi-8 @ 2.8 km (average 2.0 km) -> Ka-50 @ 2.0 km (average 1.7 km)
