bin801 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) I'v installed DCS world 1.0 and up to date 2.0 openAlfa openBeta what is the relation between them? could you please show me their family tree ? or maybe please tell me: once Perisan Gulf terrain is released and installed, what will be its name? Maybe can help me to figure out their relation ( or to say, the system ED name them) by myself. This question come to my mind because I thought 2.5 or to say open Beta now is the name of generation of DCS basic engine. And terrains such as Nevada,WWII and Perisan Gulf are made on 2.5 generation engine, and can be choose and fly in the future in released 2.5 just like or simliar to terrains in FSX series. Switch between maps in one single DCS 2.5. right or wrong? After all these terrains are no more in testing time, after they are all offically released, will they be combined and merged into one single .exe icon 2.5 on my desk front ???? I can choose Nevada WWII Perisan gulf map in one DCS 2.5???? or they will be seperated start icons on my desk front??????? This is not a request ! This is just a question ! because I am totally confused about their names and relation. These days, when I start "DCS 2 openAlpha" a window shows me So I follow the link and saw a page which is 2.5 released installment. I think that install will be offical released 2.5 which is the final stage after openBeta and 2.5 will took the place of openBeta, am I right? but when I try to install it, a window shows 2.5 can not be installed because it is already installed in my computer, but the start icon on desk front is still DCS open Beta, not 2.5. and when I start openBeta I can not find and any clue to switch to Nevada map. If my imagine is wrong, but why when I start openAlpha Nevada map it tell me to install openBeta which is Black sea map ????? openBeta supposed to be the next stage of open Alpha and Beta should take the place of Alpha after Alpha test stage is finished normally, am I right?? So I confused, what are they ? what is the relation between them?? I'v kept this question for long time please illuminate appreciate! Edited April 25, 2018 by bin801
sslechta Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 These questions get asked frequently. A little research on your own would easily find the answers.... Here's one on Open Beta 2.5 vs. Release 2.5: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=206943 They are currently the only options available. As your screenshot suggests, Open Alpha no longer exists. QuiGon Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) 2.5.x is the only supported version now. All versions prior to 2.5 are deprecated and not longer supported. 2.5.x is currently available in two different branches: The Stable Release branch and the Open Beta branch. You can download them from here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/ You said, that you already have the Open Beta installed on your computer, which is why you get the error message that you can't install it, because it is already installed. You can also see the current version for each branch here: https://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ With 2.5 everything is unified in a single launcher, so you launch the game and can use everthing (e.g. different maps) from there. sslechta Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 ......2.5.1 Open Beta just dropped so it's a version newer than the 2.5 Release. Yes, but this doesn't change anything in regard to the OPs questions. It's still the Open Beta and it's still 2.5.x. QuiGon, Appreicate!!! I can still fly openAlpha, why? Am I right? my understanding of DCS family tree is: openBeta is prepare stage for 2.5 2.5release (which is so called stable2.5) & 2.5xx's openBeta belong to one branch "2.5release" openAlpha is a seperate map, NOT a pre-stage of openBeta. openAlpha will be merged into "2.5release"branch am I right? I am still little confused about the system ED used to name those branches Thank you so much!
Art-J Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 2.1 Open Alpha is now just an abandoned legacy version, just like 1.5.xx and 1.2.xx. Not developed and supported anymore. Why is it still available? Because some people like it and prefer to use it for whatever reason (usually performance related), so it's nice that ED allows these poeple to still download it from official servers. One could say it was a "pre-stage" of current 2.5OB, as this is where new techs and maps were first implemented and tested. Nowadays, after release of 2.5 It's technically not needed anymore, though. To sum it up, the only version in active development now is 2.5.xx and if you don't desperately need the previous ones, you can delete them. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
bin801 Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Is any Chart that shows the DCS's (penAlpha Beta and so on ...) family tree????? once new Beta Alpha Charle and so on appear, can add it or them (with offical names) to the family tree and comment NEW! (in red letter) IF yes, I can understand their relation and Figure out which should be choosed by myself. Thank you If yes, please give me the link for the Family Tree Chart

To fly the Latest DCS which merged Nevada and black sea and so on, I should uninstall openBeta and install 2.5release ???? after I install 2.5 release, openAlpha will be uesless because 2.5release already has Nevada map in it ???? Thank you!
Art-J Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 You can install 2.5 stable, or 2.5 Beta, or both, depending on whether you like playing betas or not. It's strictly subjective preferences thing - beta gets updates somewhat faster, but it's also somewhat more buggy - that's all to it as far as family tree is concerned now. Both "release" and beta support all maps and modules now anyway, so you can safely dump the older versions. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
QuiGon Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 (edited) As has been said already: The Open Alpha is deprecated and not longer active. There are now only two active branches: The Open Beta and the Stable Release. The Open Beta revcieves updates usally 1-2 weeks before they are available for the Stable Release, so they can be tested by the public. Apart from that they are the same. There is no familiy tree as there are only the two branches now, which are the same, except one gets updates a bit earlier, but here is a diagram from the transition to 2.5: Edited April 26, 2018 by QuiGon Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

bin801 Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 You can install 2.5 stable, or 2.5 Beta, or both, I can install both? at least last time, ( to be safe, I want to install 2.5 release while keep OpenBeta) When I followed the news-link and try to install 2.5 release, a window remind me " can not install 2.5 release because it is already installed ....." I will try again, Thank you! Both "release" and beta support all maps and modules now anyway, so you can safely dump the older versions. Just after I saw your reply, I re-enter DCS and finally find out that all maps are in 2.5 openBeta and I can switch between them. Thank you so much!!!
bin801 Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Last time, when I start OpenAlpha( Nevada map), at where it informs me the news that openAlpha is no more supported, the window also suggest me install 2.5 and Do Not Uninstall openAlpha, because it will save installation time and 2.5 release can share some files with openAlpha..." Now, after I install 2.5 release, may I uninstall OpenAlpha ?? is that safe ? Ask stupid question above, I just want to make duble sure it is safe. Thank you!
