graywo1fg Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 ok i can never hear any other jets when i'm flying and when i come up behind someone in formation in ventrilo they always say OOOO i hear someone!..... but i cant hear them and i'm RIGHT behind them (and a few feet away if you know me ;) ) so is there a specific sound setting for that? because i want to hear other jets too :P Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
FanBoy2006.01 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Under audio (sound) options. Select External Sounds and set the slider to max. Some thing to that effect.

It sounds so realistic and adds to the depth of the whole sim. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few". - Sir Winston Churchill 1940.
graywo1fg Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 ok hmmmmm external sounds slider? doesnt sound familiar but i'll fool around with it :S yea Bat i'm trying to get my sounds to that realism :P having a bit of troubles but i think i got it now :) Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
Aeroscout Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I would think so. A cockpit canopy wont block out your own engins, so why would it block the sound from a plane a few more meters away? I'll have to adjust it my self. DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
graywo1fg Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 k thanks for the input Cali :D i know that you probably cant hear a plane next to you in real life but i just want to in the sim because it sounds cool :P Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
Kuky Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I can't say I know if you can or can't hear another aircraft while in flight because I was never in a fighter jet, but I think you wouldn't because the internal noise from your own engines is much greater then external noise. Actually when I think about it, when I flew in normal airliner a few times, I recall not hearing anything from outside once engines got running... and this is still on the ground with engines not even running on high RPM, I doubt you'd hear anything once in flight. Come to think of it too, watching some videos from inside the cocpit, I also don't remember hearing any sound that would resemble engine noise from other aircraft... now when I think about it I think I will pay more attention to this and see if this is really true or not. Best thing would be for some fighter pilot to say when he can and can't hear then we can settle down and have the real info on this :D PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

some1 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 This should clarify, it's about MiG-29 Q: A czy z kabiny można usłyszeć lecący obok samolot (jeśli tak to z jakiej około odległości), czy też własny huk zagłusza wszystko? OK, I'll translate :P Q: Is it possible to hear other jet flying nearby? A: Yes, but it has to be close, before you or side by side, best at maximum thrust or afterbrner. Once upon a time, I flew ordinary training flight, we were VID interchangeably, once I played target, next time my wingman. That day we acted as ordinary Boeings, no maneuvering. It was my turn to be a target, I don't like it because you have to fly straight for several minutes, bored I started to play GPS, watched how my pal is gainins position, etc. After some time I noticed that it was too cold in the cockpit, I bend down to increase temperature to 20 degrees, did that and heared strange noise. At first I thought: "this air conditioning is really loud", but then I looked up and I spot the plane which intercepted me, instinctively I clenched my teeth and the thing a man has on his other side. It wasn't looking good at all. The guy was in inverted flight, his nozzles where shining with afterburners and the plane was falling towards my nose. He passed directly ahead of me, about 50 meters. At first I wanted to lower RPM, but I didn't, the sudden change of parameters could lead to engine stall when passing his wake. Not slackening my teeth (and the second thing) I passed this turbulence, I got 60 degrees of bank even though I didn't move the stick. The whole time I heared his engines working, it was the hum I thought came from air conditioning. And why it happened? Nothing special, when you make a barrel roll around other plane you need speed. At highest point you have to strongly push the stick forward, otherwise the plane will fall like sh.. , i.e. like my pal's jet, fortunatly in front of my nose, not directly at my plane. After the flight he explained me what happened and asked if he had scared me much because he had the shit scared out of him and had to rescue himself with afterburner. Of course I answered that I wasn't, that it was cool, looked nice an so on, but asked him not to do this again. Now he is retired and probably tells stories everyone around how he made rolls around my cabin. 1 Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
