Is there a way to change the time of day during a mission? I looked at the list of Simulator Scripting Engine Lua functions, and I don't see any that deal with setting the time of day. I was just wondering if that functionality was off the table or if there was any way of doing it. It might be nice to have the ability to change the TOD during the mission (e.g. via F10 sub menu), but I wonder if it's not allowed because it would mess up timer/scheduled functions.

Thanks.

Yes, and also no way to change the weather, or the plane.

FSX was ridiculous and primitive compared to DCS, but you could

do that, and almost instantly.

Also, you could set "dusk" and "dawn" and "night" in DCS is always a guesswork

in the ME if one wants the time to be dusk or dawn.......

Also, one can not save a mission with all the parameters already set, as you could do

in FSX. There is somewhere a thread about that in this forum.

What are you talking about?

DCS follows RW solar/lunar cycles for the region. Set the time of day accordingly. Want sunrise? Look up sunrise in Georgia/Russia on that given date.

You can place as many client aircraft in any given map as you want and freely swap between them. You can "jump" into same coalition AI aircraft.

You can set the weather and time of day in the mission editor. TOD is set on the briefing page, weather in the weather page. These are stored in the .miz file when you save it.

If you know a little bit about how pressure systems work you can even set dynamic weather that will create storms that move throughout the map, etc.

The weather isn't as robust as some of the other options out there, but to say these things aren't possible is just plain incorrect.

Not being able to change the time of day mid-mission sort of matches how the real world works. Weather needs a lot of work of course, but I can hardly agree with the request for time switching.

I am no newbie in DCS, and I know perfectly well all you wrote.

What I meant is changing the livery and the weather in FSX was

far more user friendly than in DCS. I did not have to "Look up sunrise in Georgia/Russia on that given date" to set dusk or dawn, and I could change the livery on the fly without closing the mission, instead of going to the me > change the livery > restarting the mission.

THAT is what I am talking about. Anyway, not important. forget it.

Ok, thanks for the replies. The main intent was that with scripting, it would be nice to have the ability to change a mission just loaded to say a night mission, or dusk or dawn, without needing a separate version of the mission for each TOD.

That vid is exactly one year old. But I guess you also knew this already.

A warrior's mission is to foster the success of others.

Exactly this.

And moreover, one can not save a mission with all the parameters already set, as you could do

in FSX. For example, already set ILS frequencies, chaff flare programs, etc. There is at least one thread about that in this forum:

That option is called "prepare mission." You can set up cockpit systems as desired and they will retain the settings when you exit. It will create a folder inside the .miz for each item you alter.

Well I tried that, but not really.....

Prepare mission> then in the mission,

Switched the map to off, countermeasures to off, ILS frequency to 110.10, flood light off.

Exit to ME, saved the mission, loaded the mission again, but none of those parameters were saved.

Map was on, countermeasures on, ILS frequency to 108.95, flood light on.

You don't have to go into the ME to change the livery it can be done in mission on the ground.!!

You're absolutely right, I do it all the time to switch to my Robotech livery that only I can see online unless someone on the server also has those downloaded. It's done in the refuel/rearm menu.
